The few trailers I watched did make it look awesome.  I hoping for a demo or my next blockbuster free rental before I buy.

So, if you can't WAIT, then why are you waiting till Sat. ?

And, shit Overlord comes out too?  What a great week to play an evil character who isn't really evil, just pretending to be.  Like a gay vampire.

Okay, can someone tell me what the hell this game is really about?

I haven't read a single thing about it, except that everyone keeps drooling over it.

I'm also too lazy to go actually look up anything on it.

WHAT IS IT.

Do you control Charlie Murphy?

It's about a hit man who works for some crime boss named Franchetti, like the Scottish race car driver who's married to Ashley Judd, sister of the chubby old country western tart and daughter of the old country western slapper.  She's really cute, though.  It's an action game and really looks good and I'd like to play it but we haven't even bought a 360 yet, let alone a PS3.

Plus, it's made by the same folks who did that Riddick game which was pretty solid imo.

The latest trailer looks amazing.  The latest game play video (at gamespot) looks like they let a 10 year old retard have at it.

Didn't they already do this on PC?  It feels familiar.

Well. The game is good. The aiming at the beginning is sloppy as shit. I appreciate what they're trying to do, but handguns, man, fuck handguns in this game.

Totally agree, the aiming is shit. It has this weird sticky aiming, but im not used to it, so i constantly over shoot when im trying to aim on the run. Alsio the movement is a bit odd, its not smooth, like you tap one direction and it moves a "square". The atmosphere is great so far, havent got very far, but Im planning on playing it a good amount this weekend.

Played a bunch more of this game. Its really growing one me. Once you get the hang of the sticky aiming, it works decently, and once you get the "Demon Tentacle" it makes it about a million times easer to break lights and the game just feels more fluid.

I really enjoy the C'thulu/Max Pain Film Noir blend.

I have to pick this up at some point, just because Mike Patton did the voice (http://ps3.gamespy.com/playstation-3/the-darkness/800168p1.html).

His voice is brilliant in the game. It really works well. And fucking creepy.

Mike Patton is why Killjoy got it.  He called me up and said "WHEN I SCREW UP MIKE PATTON YELLS AT ME!".

Motherfucker loves Mike Patton.

Spent a little time playing Overlord on PC. Rather than make another thread I'll just throw my comments in here.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for original ideas, but I like it. There's some decent humor in the game and the level design doesn't seem overly contrived, although a map would have been a nice touch. I agree that there should be more motivation for being evil, but I don't feel like it's a game breaker. Been playing through the 'good evil' path so far and if it keeps my interest I may run through it again following the totally evil approach.

It's definitely rough around the edges, but the concept of controlling an squad of minions is in itself pretty fun for me. There's something gratifying about sending in a bunch of subservient gremlins to trash landscape and gather the weapons and armor they to outfit themselves. Battles are sometimes tedious because of the control scheme but the animations used for boss battles, such as your minions jumping on their backs and getting thrown around, are well done. In addition, most battles will reward you for good management and distribution of your different minion types depending on the enemy attacks.

It's not a must-have title, but I'd consider it enjoyable enough to warrant a rental.

I just finished the single player portion of the game.  I think they did an excellent job.  The minion AI could use some work as they appeared to be as dumb as bricks despite the smart mouth on them.  They also seemed to like to piss on corpses. A lot.

But overall I really empathized with Jackie, and the way he handled himself through most of the game and the way the game handled him was great.

Best stand out moment? Walk down a subway tunnel and don't turn back.  Frickin' hilarious and will make you jump out of your seat despite how expected it is.

I've yet to try Multiplayer.

I finished the singleplayer last night also. It was a cool game, although I could have used a bit more story and a bit more of a climactic ending. The one thing that the game didnt really have was any decent boss fights.

On that last level, I really did feel like a rampaging master of darkness. I think that they got the atmosphere down perfect.

I tried the multiplayer for 5 minutes, and it was very Meh. I was playing as a darkling, and just constantly getting one shot killed.

Here's Mike Patton in a nutshell (Free MP3's everybody!)
========================

Tomahawk is his best band. Mainly because Duane Denison (Jesus Lizard) kicks as much ass as he Mike does.

Most of the time, he's doing this Wolfman Jack/Tom Waits thing with Tomahawk:

God Hates a Coward (http://homepage.mac.com/straykat627/mike_patton_samples/god_hates_a_coward.mp3)

---------

Second coolest band is Fantomas. That's like a Superband between him, Dave Lombardo (drummer from Slayer) and King Buzzo from the Melvins.

Fantomas is probably even more "inaccessible" than Mr. Bungle (which is basically circus music on shrooms -- Quote Unquote (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbBwFdKDaKw&mode=related&search=)). Think of it as jazz scatting combined with sludge metal.

Book 1 Page 29 (http://homepage.mac.com/straykat627/mike_patton_samples/book_1_ page_29.mp3)

Umm..They also do some cool movie score covers.

Cape Fear (http://homepage.mac.com/straykat627/mike_patton_samples/cape_fear.mp3)

--------------

There's also Peeping Tom... Which is about the closest to Radio Dance Pop he'll ever get (and it's not even that, I guess)

Kill the DJ (http://homepage.mac.com/straykat627/mike_patton_samples/kill_the_dj.mp3)

Then there's Faith No More, of course. Covering the Commodores...I guess this track was kind of popular years back...

Easy (http://homepage.mac.com/straykat627/mike_patton_samples/easy.mp3)

The guy also has a hip hop group (as General Patton), and has a couple albums of him crooning in fluent Italian or doing opera with symphonies.

ANYWAYS! Sorry for the derail. I haven't played a game in months...Let alone the Darkness. I have nothing else to add. ;)

I saw Peeping Tom a few weeks back - they were awesome.

Nothing to add to the Darkness thread other than I'll get this game when I buy a Xbox360.

I started to play Multiplayer this weekend after polishing off all the single-player achievements.

If they could patch away the severe Netcode issues (in my wildest dreams I couldn't have imagined they would release a game nowadays that suffers from netcode issues that would make Doom 1 cry), they'd have a pretty fun game.
