Title: NCsoft shutting down Korean "City of Angel" Post by: UnSub on June 12, 2007, 11:08:48 PM Low server numbers see the closure of the Korean City of Heroes server. (https://www.koreaherald.co.kr/SITE/data/html_dir/2007/06/09/200706090033.asp)
That 300k player number is assumed to either be a mistake, a reflection that I9 has brought a lot of players back or that CoH/V has a huge number of free trial players, since the last official numbers for CoH/V came in at 154k. I9 got some resubs but not double. Or maybe their way of counting is not the same as what we're used to here in the US. I don't know enough about Korean culture or the Korean version of the game itself to even speculate on what the problem might have been.

A couple of theories have been put forward regarding CoH/V's failure in Korea, such as: - too much character customisation - not enough grind - not enough in-game direction for players - western superheroes not fitting in well with Korean culture In truth, it's probably a mixture of these things.
