Title: Half-life 2 Gold on Monday
Post by: HRose on August 27, 2004, 11:43:55 PM
Too tired to report sources and whatnot. But there's a post of Gabe anticipating the gold on Monday.

The game is already available on preload. At least if the server were working...

Excellent.  Now I just need to figure out which fucking version I have to buy so that I'm not left without multiplayer and whatnot.

Hold yer horses. They're making issues about the IP address used with that post.

Considering that their server was having major issues, that means acc. to other people, the script decided to air the mysql login credentials, there#s well a possibility of a fake post. People are flooding Newell's mailbox currently, so wait until he gets up and confirms or denies it.

This is the first of a number of preload events. We'll be adding more data to the preload over the next couple of weeks. -Erik

Preloading. Fine. And?

You get the executables and the art. No maps nor the client.dll.

This morning it was confirmed that the post made concerning Half-Life 2 going gold, orginally thought to be made by Valve's Gabe Newell, was in fact posted by someone that had found his password and used it to post with his account.

Fucking HELL.  These guys desperately need a lesson in security.  Christ.

People are claiming his password was "gaben". Gotta love the internet rumor mill. If it really was that, the account would have been hijacked a gazillion times by now.

Oh well, I guess that means more time with Doom3 multiplayer for me.

Cough.

Or you could have your balls belt sanded.  Same enjoyment.

My thought?  Gabe jumped the gun and this "Oh, actually I was haxx0red" defence was a way to get out of it.

What really pisses me off is that Doom3 multiplayer could have been great, if they just expanded on what made the first two such a fucking blast over LAN: lots of monsters on the map.  Then it becomes not just vanilla deathmatch, but you are actively fighting people who deliberately pull that cyberdemon into your vicinity and then bolt for another area.  With D3's enging that also could have been scary as fuck, something I wouldn't expect from many multiplayer games.

Sigh...

What to make of this?

http://www.teamradeon.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=602&highlight=#top

I've seen some people claiming Team Radeon is ATI itself. If that's true, why would a site admin claim a timeframe if it were wrong? Supposedly he posted that before he read that the HL2Fallout post was wrong.

You know, with all the "haxX0r" shit going on with HL2's network security, I'm not so sure I want to play CS just to get pimpslapped by some cockmuncher with an AWP parked on the other side of the map using every cheat in the book.

Just saw this on Blue's

Quote from: Blue's News
"We're currently planning to send release candidates to Vivendi by September 15th," according to Valve's marketing boss Doug Lombardi. "However, VUG hasn't given us a ship date yet."

His comments came following a report from Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, which pinned down Half-Life 2 as a November release in a comment on the potential success of three key PC titles this year.

Sexy.  Hopefully it lives up to the hype as so many games are not.
