Some of my best gaming memories have been from playing the original Pirates! back on the old Apple ][ when I was a kid. Good times. Post by: Lum on August 27, 2004, 02:37:30 PM Atari was showing this at GenCon. Has some issues with the 3d engine and point of view, but overall it's pretty fun.

Screen shots look cool, but I really hate the scale of the ships in comparison to the land features. Nothing I can't get over...it just looks goofy.

If it's just a respin of the previous version with better graphics, then I'm sure it will be fun, but it won't make me stick to it very long.

I agree that a strict remake with little to no new gameplay would have a limited lifespan. OTOH, if they get too far away from the original formula, there is a good chance they will fuck it up. I've PLAYED that game, and pretty much "beat" it to death. I spent years playing Adventure, too, but I don't play it anymore. Ditto M.U.L.E., etc. If I wanted to play Pirates! again, I don't need fancy graphics; I'd just play the old version... which, in fact, I have, from time to time, but not in a couple of years now. So if the new Pirates! is exactly the same gameplay as the old, it won't hold my interest for very long.
