Ditto on Glen Miller - grew up listening to Big Bands, my parents recorded their old 78s onto the high tech hi fi reel to reel from Japan! in the 60s sometime (when it was a Big Deal to get something from Japan).  I do wish that his music was recorded with a better quality.  Moonlight Serenade, Pennsylvania6-5000 and Little Brown Jug are all awesome. 

I won't bore you with the details, but the theft of my Village People album in 1979 at a ward-house was the beginning of the road of my rejection of Mormonism. My personal favorite disco album of the time, however, was the Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk EP. I wore that sucker out. Probably damaged my brain.

I love big band music!  Specifically requested that the DJ at my wedding play a lot of it (and to NOT play fucking "Hokey Pokey" or "Chicken Dance").  Bastard didn't play as much swing as I wanted and then played those two damn songs I told him not too!  Guest requests and all that.

Biggest regret from the reception was the idiot videographer not getting me and my mom doing the jitterbug on tape.  My parents were into swing dancing for a long while and she taught me how to do some of them.  Doing the jitterbug in a freaking hoop skirt was an accomplishment, and that idiot missed it!  ARGH!  Still pisses me off 14 years later.

Without going into a lot of detail, a Benny Hill song was #1 in AU when I was born.  Such is the travails of my youth.

Best wedding I ever worked as a DJ (not yours!). Couple handed us a playlist for dinner music, some real classy Sinatra and piano stuff. Then gave us a 'jist list' of swing and big band for the rowdy dancing portion of the evening. We winced, because people expect 'wedding music' (chicken dance, ad nauseum). But we were pros and followed orders. Turns out one of the families paid for lessons for everyone and the whole place broke into a flurry of raucous swing dancers, it was a couple hours of insanity. Good times.

Sorry you got stuck with a shitty DJ. We had some stupid requests, we just let people know that they didn't fit into the program the couple had requested. You /never/ fuck with the bride's requests, and secondarily the groom's.
