That sounds like tremendous fun - camping the spider spawn in your newb compact car to be able to get driving+1 and afford a slightly larger car.

I don't really like the graphics design either. I wish they had done it in a more "realistic" hightech/lowtech style. More SF than fantasy. The car in the screenshot looks like it could be an orc car from Warcraft if there had been such a thing.

Unfortunately, I forsee another flop from NetDevil as they try to fit a cool concept (autoduelling) into a tired old mold (Everquest style MMOG).

The thing that bugs me is that their cityscape is actually pretty cool looking.  The environment is nice and gritty but then you see the cars and they just stick out like a sore thumb.  Then I look at the other environments and realize the city is the fluke with the rest of them being overly colorful warcraft like environments.

If it has an open beta I will surely check that out to see how the controls are.  If it is FUN I can overlook it being silly looking.  But I will most likely burn out a lot faster being forced to drive those silly vehicles.

I assume there are car classes that broadly resolve to tanks, ambulances, MRLS vehicles, and gimped stealth-cars?

I haven't liked the car styles at all since the first screenshot, and this looks even worse. Add in the typical class archtypes from MMOG's and leveling 2 crush, and you pretty much lost me at hello.

They need to scrap this silly shit and just make Autoduel Online. Wasn't Dave Rickey a candidate to work on AA? Anyone hear if he is there?

Ugh.  The only leveling I would accept in a game like this would parallel the planetside certification system.  And that is exactly how it should be done.  This game just sounds bizaare.

I still want to beta, but now it is more likely I will use that beta to mock it.  We will see.

Why do people needlessly complicate simple ideas?  All they need to do is recreate Mad Max/Autoduel in the MMOG genre.  It's not that friggin' difficult, people.

I'd love to play an action-oriented car wars type game, with all kinds of fun (carmageddonish) powerups. I76 online would rock, too.

EQ has done so much massive damage to persistant online gaming design I get a little sick thinking about it, though.

Although it does contain gigant spiders. The physics looks a bit wonky too and the lack of shadows makes cars etc look strange.

I totally forgot that existed! That game was fuggin' hard. Maybe it was the top-down steering- I was only 6 when it was released, so I was at a disadvantage.
