Title: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: Ragnoros on May 19, 2007, 02:59:18 PM Basically what the topic says. I just got the trial, as the war thread was just to interesting to not try the game.
The pictures provided ingame/at the eve website are so small you can hardly see any details. I found one viewer that uses the game files but I can't find anyway to select the exact ship I want to view and there are rather a lot in the game. Thanks in advance. EDIT: Found this site http://www.destabiliser.com/eveships/ (http://www.destabiliser.com/eveships/) good but not great. Still looking for a full featured model viewer. Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: Ragnoros on May 20, 2007, 12:14:15 PM Nope. Just got into the game after reading the mammoth War thread. I'm trying to find what ships look coolest. From what I have seen so far my race of choice Gallente has the lamest ships, with them all looking bloby and simi organic but not in a cool way. Ammar have cool sleek very high tech yet old looking, perfect for their lore. Cladari have very nice pointy ships that scream military. And Minmatar look sorta cobbled together, and sparse, like they are held together with duct tape and shear force of will.
Found this link it's cool. http://www.eve-files.com/media/12/eve_chart-rmr.jpg (http://www.eve-files.com/media/12/eve_chart-rmr.jpg) Anyway my current plan is to become a mining force to make cash, then move into major drone use, and finally carrier/mothership (iirc) operation. Basically cool swarming AI ships of fiery death. Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: MahrinSkel on May 20, 2007, 12:53:55 PM If your plan is Drones/Fighters, then you want to go Gallente. Bigger drone bays on most ships, some of them (including the carrier and mothership) have performance bonuses for them as well. Tends towards more organic shapes in white/silver and green.

Post by: Yoru on May 20, 2007, 02:37:02 PM I personally like the look of the Gallente ships the most; I fly primarily Caldari right now, and I find 'em ugly, angular and plain. Amarr look pretty neat too. Not a fan of the cobbled-together-with-duct-tape Minmatar look, though.
Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: Endie on May 20, 2007, 02:46:32 PM Cladari have very nice pointy ships that scream military. I agree with you on that one. Aesthetically speaking, they look like proper warships: functional, brutal and battleship-grey. of course, on that sort of shallow reasoning you should just be aiming for the minmatar titan, since it almost shares a name with you... Basically cool swarming AI ships of fiery death. Caldari is definitely an option if you want to specialise in mining - they have a mining cruiser (Osprey) which will keep you competitive until you're ready to step up to either the large mining barge (Covetor) or battleship outfitted for mining (Rohk) Only real advice I can offer for mining is "bring friends" - solo mining is a soul sucking experience, group mining ops are more profitable and fun. As for the most stylish looking ships I'd have said Gallente as well, Caldari ships tend to get the job done but aren't much to look at ... and the less said about their hideously asymmetrical hulls the better! Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: Trippy on May 20, 2007, 04:14:42 PM Many of the Gallente ships are ugly, blobby and asymetrical. On the other hand they have the Tristan which is like the greatest ship evar! :-D
Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: Simond on May 20, 2007, 05:06:23 PM OK, quick summary of ship looks:
Amarr: Golden, mostly symmetrical, lots of simple curves & lines. Gallente: Oxidised copper/silver/bronze, asymmetrical, vaguely organic curves. Caldari: Angular, black/dark grey/bare metal, mostly very, very asymetrical to the point of some looking like two ships that crashed together and then had sheets of armour plate welded over the top. Minmatar: Flying scrapheaps, rusty brown, ramshackle. Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. I actually fly Minmatar and Gallente. Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: Comstar on May 21, 2007, 09:42:43 AM Best Frig: Rifter
Best Battlecruiser: Hurricane Best Battleship (if you're a red dwarf fan): Typhoon. And the dreadnought is in the vertical. Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: Simond on May 21, 2007, 11:12:14 AM Punisher > Rifter, and Myrmidon > Hurricane. :mob:

Disclaimer: never tried it myself. Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: dwindlehop on May 21, 2007, 11:20:34 AM Honestly, when I want to check out ships, I use QuickFit or EveMon. I still can't remember what anything looks like except the Rifter, Stabber, Rupture, and Cyclone, though.

Post by: Yegolev on May 21, 2007, 11:23:59 AM Anyway my current plan is to become a mining force to make cash, then move into major drone use, My advice is to do some Drone work early in your mining career, not so much for using mining drones but for defending yourself when you mine solo or just with a hauler partner. You might not worry about it too much when mining in a cruiser or battleship, but once you move up to a barge you will start to get paranoid... nevermind an exhumer. Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: Ragnoros on May 21, 2007, 11:55:22 AM Mmm I like the Naglfar. Homeworld FTW.

I found I could get away with mining in .4 and .5 with a Navitas, with decent drone skills. I think the Navitas holds two or three scouts (it's been awhile -- might have been one) and they were perfectly capable of eating .4 rat spawns while I tanked. Then I took their stuff, threw it in my GSC, and went on raping a 'roid. Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: dwindlehop on May 21, 2007, 02:40:40 PM Mining makes the baby Jesus cry.
Edit: So here's some alternatives. Salvaging. Highsec or zerosec, especially. Salvaging in highsec won't flag you, so you can prey on the wrecks from wars reasonably safely. Alternatively, you can salvage for a mission runner if you are not into a PvP-ish affair. If you do it in zerosec, you can also... Loot steal. This will flag you, so it requires some player skill. Still, you can rack up the isk. Beg. Surprisingly effective. It takes me essentially no time to earn 1M isk, and I'm really freaking far from rich. Particularly effective in a corp. Ninja rat. Probably a better idea once you've been training for a while. Be Trouble, trade your way up to a billion. Ahem. Set up buy orders at 10%, 1%, .1% of the cost. Some people just can't count zeros. Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: Yegolev on May 22, 2007, 07:59:01 AM I used a GSC once and wondered what the appeal was, other than being able to mine a bit more efficiently in a Navitas. I felt it was better to use a ship with that cargo space that could also mine, and I basically went Navitas -> Exequor -> Retriever.
I think the Nav can hold two scouts. The Mackinaw can hold ten, I think, but it's a much easier target as well. If you want to get rich in EVE, you need to work the market. I felt it was better to use a ship with that cargo space that could also mine, and I basically went Navitas -> Exequor -> Retriever. It's for people whose haulting abilities are "Industrials" and whose mining ships are "Cruisers or Frigs".I used an Itty III to drop three GSCs in a field, generally positioning them near two or three asteroids of the type I wanted to mine. I'd come in with the Navitas, stand off the GSC, and rape the roid and drop the crap in. Whenever a rat spawn would show up, I'd send off my little babies to kill it. Didn't make much, but I paid for the Itty, three GSCs, the skillbooks for anchoring and Industrials, in about two hours of mining. When I'm really bored, I'll haul that stuff out into a quiet .4 sector I know -- although I use the Vex for mining. I can fit 5 T2 mining drones, 5 decent mining lasers, and eat the shit out of rocks. If Rats show up, I just haul in the drones and splash out the mediums. About the only downside is fitting good mining lasers really fucks up my grid, meaning I can't tank for shit. Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: ajax34i on May 22, 2007, 01:26:16 PM I think GSC's are mainly used to extend the carrying capacity of (tech 1) industrials by another 30% (which is pretty big for industrials). Newbies who don't have the skills to pilot anything bigger (freighters) or tougher (transports) and don't have the cash to buy the 27.5 cargo expanders can still maximize their industrial cheaply with GSC's. It saves them a couple runs when they go sell their minerals over the weekend, or when they move their loot from one agent's base to another's.

They only leave my industrial if I'm anchoring them, which isn't often these days.Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: Strazos on May 26, 2007, 12:25:37 AM I think a lot of the newer ships, for all races, look fucking awesome.
Also, if I had ept playing, I could very well be flying a Caldari Dreadnaught right now, money notwithstanding. I was never all that great at earning money; I didn't much like mining, mission running, or playing with economics. I only ever earned money by ratting, which was pretty good when we had zero-sec access. Title: Re: I'm looking for a good ship viewer. Or site with good pics. Post by: stu on September 25, 2007, 11:50:56 PM Since I've been considering diving into this game for a loooong time now, I have been a bit frustrated when looking at the tiny thumbnails on the ship database at the official site. I typed "eve online ships" into Google and came up with this site. It provided searches resulting in four large pics to each ship type and an easy finding method on the homepage.
http://www.eveonlineships.com/index.php (http://www.eveonlineships.com/index.php) There's also a pretty cool scale comparison illustration of the ships with each class from the different races of the game at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Eve_chart.jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Eve_chart.jpg) The #3 return from the search was the link provided by Ragnoros at the head of this thread. edit: I see that the scale illustration is a re-post. Apologies. |
