Yeah, it's supposed to be CG / cartoon / whatever, but this just makes my heart really ache. Title: Re: Ugh. Just. Ugggggh. (Clone Wars poster) Post by: Merusk on May 19, 2007, 10:54:24 AM The Clone War cartoons (mostly the 2nd season) were great. Yeah most of the folks who criticize clone wars didn't bother checking out the 2nd season. That the first season was just "rehash, 2 mins of story, end" didn't help convince them to do otherwise. It's a crappy style but I don't see that this is worth pissing one's pants in anguish over. The Clone Wars cartoon was done in the Samurai Jack style, whoever that artist was. They've tried to capture it in the CGI, and it doesn't work well. The CW/ SJ style is very rooted in the 2d medium. Title: Re: Ugh. Just. Ugggggh. The cartoon, ugly as many see it as (I liked the style though), was far and away better than the tripe that Lucas put together. KOTOR was a better movie than the last three. It just can't get worse. Until it shows up as a series on the CW. Then, it's worse. Title: Re: Ugh. Just. Ugggggh. If a cartoon is comedy, art style doesn't bother me. If it's action and based on characters played by human beings I can't take this hyperstylized shit. I won't be watching this CGI for the same reason. My first thought on hearing the CGI was "please make it look good".

Title: Re: Ugh. Just. Ugggggh. (Clone Wars poster) Post by: damijin on May 22, 2007, 12:09:22 AM The style doesn't bug me *too* much, I liked Gendy's cartoons. The issue for me is... why? Why do this at all? And if you're going to do it... why not just contract Gendy to make more 2d cartoons in the same style, rather than try to do some 3d version of his shit. 'Tis beyond me. Lucas should just leave shit like this up to the novelists. It causes less nerd rage, and costs a hell of a lot less.

Star War$, I loved it back in the day. But like what Trek' became, it's a franchise long played out. Title: Re: Ugh. Just. Ugggggh. There was a new link circulating about a (possible?) new CG animated series that isn't in this thread yet tho... http://www.talesofthenewrepublic.com/ Star Wars is 30yrs old today... and man do I feel old now. I liked the 2D style, but at this point in my SW career, if there's a plot that's any good, it could look like anything (including text) and I'd partake. I like the 3D style, though I'd have gone even more cell-shaded. 2D or 3D at least they only have to worry about the quality of the voice overs instead of the whole actor/ress physiology. That looks way too good to be legit. It looks awesome. I swear I saw Admiral Thrawn in there too (at 0:27). What with everything in that trailer, they're covering at least Episode 1 through a few years after Episode 6. If that's the case, bring it on, legit or not (which it doesn't appear to be based on this disclaimer at the top: "Disclaimer: This is not an offical Lucasfilm Production")Title: Re: Ugh. Just. It looks like it could be good, too. The style doesn't bother me much. I'm just wondering how many versions of it will be out on DVD before Lucas pumps out a special addition with Real Jango-Fett Voice (tm). Title: Re: Ugh. Just. Ugggggh. I hate those characters. The style alternates between cool and annoying as shit. But those two characters make it real likely I'll hate this series. Title: Re: Ugh. Just. Ugggggh. Edit: Served by Darniaq. I must be off my game. Just for the record, the Tales site did not have a disclaimer when I first posted it, only screenshots and the Star Wars Anniversary date at the bottom. I had no clue if it was anything at all when I first posted that here, and I was guessing that it was possible, but only because the screenshots looked decent. I watched the trailer of Clone Wars, and the art in most of it is very nice. I don't get why the clone troopers, vehicles and backgrounds look damn good, but all the "main characters" have a cartoony look? Yoda looks more like Gizmo from the Gremlins movies in the cartoony version. /shrug |
