Iams has always been shit, right?

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

I've generally avoided it, yeah, but depending on what other brands are made there, it could end up affecting more than just Iams/Eukenuba.  The pet food contamination thing from a few years ago ended up affecting a lot more than just the 'cheap' brands.

Sure, but people use them, so I wanted to make sure the word got out.

But as Mazakiel said, this could widen. Hopefully not.

We actually got a robocall from Stop and Shop because we'd bought Iams and used our grocery card. Different lot thankfully.

The best dry food I've used is called Before Grain by Merrick.  It's made in the USA, too, which is kind of important to me.  I've always avoided pet food that has any ingredients from China.  China has no regulations regarding pet food.  Shit, they have almost none regarding people food I think.  Food made in China seems to be recalled a lot.

I think IAMS might have come out with a "made in America" line of products.  Not sure.  The laws regarding pet food labeling are apparently ambiguous.  I think that means they can lie if they like.  I avoided IAMS not just for their ingredients, but because of the allegations of cruelty to animals.  And not just on PETA's word.  I saw the pics and charges made from other investigators, too.  They also use corn products as their main filler.  Corn is just plain bad for cats.  It's a poor protein source, fattening, bad for their skin, causes increased shedding, and most of it is GM.  I'd even venture to say ALL of the corn in pet food is GM.  Soy, wheat and gluten are almost as bad as corn.  Cats don't need carbs.  (err... neither do I but well, you know)  There are other fillers in dry food that are way more acceptable, like a little potato starch, sweet potato, dried egg, stuff like that which cat's can digest easily.  IAMS might have changed their policies regarding lab animals and even their ingredients by now.  I saw all this stuff back several years.  I would definitely check on their filler sources, though.  Anyway, yes I'm insane about my cats and do more research into their health than is good for my eyes and my mental stability.

Before Grain has been retired, merrick has a new grain-free line for cats. Which mine don't like at all.

I know.  I bought the last two giant bags from the pet food shop.  Magenta is finicky, too, and I'm afraid she won't like it.  I don't know what to do about it.  She won't touch wet, which I prefer.  I tried to be tough this time and stick to it in spite of her sad cries, but by the start of the third day of her not eating, I gave up.  Those people who tell me that they'll switch withing 24 hours if that's all you give them are goddam motherfucking scrotum faced liars.  There's a rather high end shop not far that sells and gives away lots of small and sample bags of food.  I might give that a try when I'm getting low on Before Grain.  If I find something, I'll post it.  Til then, check shops for the last bags.  HURRY!!!

We've always fed our cats more premium stuff.

Then, we tried switching to Merrick. One of our cats stopped eating and had to have a tube, etc etc. Fun times.

I've heard Blue Buffalo Wilderness is very good, too.  I think you can buy it in regular pet shops.  It doesn't have the nasty fillers and it even smells nice.  Magenta will even eat it.  Both cats  Heart their chicken and duck treats, too.  I tend to stay away from any food with fish in it because it can cause so many different issues, but... as everyone here knows... some cats are so fucking finicky that when you find something at least moderately healthy sometimes you just have to stick with it.  It's could be the difference between a happy kitty and suddenly dying in your sleep of a mysterious throat gash.

I used to feed my cats Science Diet, and then the pet food contamination thing hit a few years ago.  Around the same time, one of my cats ended up dying from causes the vet could never determine, after having been given wet food that later got yanked from the shelves due to the recall.  I tried a couple new brands, but Blue Buffalo was the only brand they were both willing to touch.  It ended up being better for their coat and weight, as well.

We feed ours something called Hills MD Prescription, which is a high protein, low carbohydrate food specifically for diabetic cats.

Procter & Gamble recalls some dry pet food for possible Salmonella

My dog lives for the chance to sniff, roll in, and eat random poop on walks. Salmonella would be an improvement. I know it's a serious threat, but it reminds me of all the trouble we went to sterilizing baby bottles only to have our babies gumming on the dog's paws every two minutes.

My sister's pup does the same thing.  Nothing is worse than opening the door to a dog who's just rolled in fresh fox poop.   There are very few odours as nasty as fox poop.  ACK!  And dog paws smell like popcorn.  You should have fed your children more popcorn!
