I dunno how old or new this is, but it looks neat. There's a benchmark out now too if you want to check the shiny.

Uncharted Waters Online by KOEI.  Latest I heard is PC (and possible PS2) release for North America in 2005.

Found some screens here: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/unchartedwatersonline/screenindex.html

Ships, cannons and sails.  I'll have no choice but to pick this up if it makes it to the US.

I'm still trying to figure out how to crank up the AA, Ansi, etc. in the benchmark, since the interface is 100% in Japanese.

If you remember the Uncharted Waters series on SNES, this is Uncharted Waters Online.

It does seem to be heavily influenced by Square Enix in the graphics department.  That screenshot page lists KOEI as the publisher and does not give a developer, could be SE by the looks of it.  The benchmark looks to be the same as the ffxi benchmark sans Tarus.

There are few new ideas coming out of Japan now.  Tidus on a boat.  Bleh.  Watch out for bird-based calvary.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

Some images indicating character customization, or something.  I don't know any Japanese.  I found the gallery because the site directory and page names are in English.  Images are from various pages, the text is mine...

Manly men in a manly boat on a manly sea doing manly things.

Damn, I just wanted sail around the Caribbean and sunk an occasional boat like Erroll Flynn.  Not prance around the poopdeck like the sailor from the Village People.   Maybe if I wore an eyepatch..or two.  Gah, this sucks.

Using the web page translamorgifier at google, it looks like it's going open beta in 2 days.  The ocean going screens look good, plus there seem to be some sort of combat between countries.  I noticed a closed beta event involving a raid on the Netherlands.
