I'm watching this TotalBiscuit video of an early build of the game, and I already want it so much.

He released a new version, with a basic SPAZ-esque campaign mode. This game is a lot of fun.

Oh good, I've been waiting for the .5 release. Now to die horribly even more!

edit: that is to say that all my adventures in the old mode ended like space combat actually would: 400 off screen torpedoes broadside me the minute I open fire <3

As far as a combat system goes this about 100% perfection for a 4x game.

It's not going to be a 4x game. It's more like strange adventures in infinite space, or SPAZ, or space rangers. The game is still really fun, though, even in an "alpha" state.

I am finding it rather difficult.

ASAP, buy a bunch of fighters. It makes the campaign mode so much easier. Just instantly tell the game your ship needs a light escort and they'll hang out with you and help out.

broadswords are really, really strong. So are wolf-class frigates. I suggest you set all your weapons to autofire (shift-#) and you just drive and manage the shields. Select an empty weapon group to have ALL your weapons autofire. Else, just keep the missile weapon group selected.

If you've got a carrier (you should, it respawns dead fighters/repairs the live ones) remember to set carrier group rally point away from the fighting. Sadly, carriers are really slow and make your fleet not be able to catch much, even if you stick augmented engines on the fastest carrier.

Also remember to wipe out hostile fighter/bomber wings, due to said carrier rearming thing. Nothing's quite as shitty as killing 3 bombers and having the fourth limp away and return with three new friends a minute later.

Is there some way to board ships manually?   Seems like they're always scrapped.

It seems based on damage done? Or something. I think that's a part that's barely fleshed out. The best I've managed to board was a shitty fighter wing.

It's not really "in" yet. Any of their ships that run away (you'll notice this happens a lot when there are only a few of their ships left and you have overwhelming firepower) have a great chance of being boarded, as do ships that never make it into the battlefield (capturing all points, killing ships on the field).

New build was released! Lots of balance changes, a few mechanic changes, new AI, fuel/storage/accidents, and a neutral abandoned station home base that you can use to store extra ships and equipment!

I can't stop playing this goddamned game and it's only in alpha.

They need a new payment processor. They have a stupid IP = real location system that prevents people from using their CC if they are outside the credit card's home country.

Sad Panda.
