Not everyone wants to live in a log cabin in a deserted forest. Trying to reinvent yourself is the point and a much better one.

I'd generally think of getting off the grid as going to live in a cabin in the mountains surviving on a diet of berries, local wildlife, and lost hikers - but theres no reason you couldn't successfully re-invent yourself and avoid being caught like this idiot by not doing things like subscribe to the facebook group dedicated to trying to catch you, going to your favorite sporting event, and eating at wierdo fucking niche health food restaurants.
