This comes from a blog post from their PR guy though...

Quote
Korean publisher and developer HanbitSoft has officially announced that it owns the IPs for Flagship Studios' Hellgate: London and Mythos and is actively working on a Hellgate expansion, despite the scheduled termination of Hellgate's servers by operator Namco Bandai

Quote
Additionally, T3 Entertainment, which is also based in Korea and has a controlling stake in HanbitSoft, formed a new U.S. studio comprised of former Flagship and Blizzard employees to work on updating the two games. The studio is believed to be called Redbana U.S. Corporation and is based in San Francisco. "They will be carrying on where the last crew left off," says HanbitSoft's site.

I haven't played in ages but since I was still subbed when FSS shut it's doors, I can play the subscriber stuff if I want.  I actually stopped playing when they shut off the test server because I was in the middle of doing the Abyss content.  If they start up again, I'd give it a go.  I really like this buggy pos.  At the moment, I'm not subscribed to ANYTHING!  It's depressing.

Come play LoTRO with us!

By us I mean Yeg, myself, and 1 other random retired guy who is really, really nice.  There is a pie quest (you get a pie!)

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.

I played LOTRO for a couple months.  Is the pie quest where you have to avoid all those hobbitses?  I hate hobbitses.  I wanted to make them eat pie until they choked to death.

What good an expansion if the live servers are down? Is Hanbit going to open their own servers here in NA? Are they going to patch in LAN play? Or just release a solo expansion?

Who is getting the NA rights to Mythos and Hellgate?  If the Korean company can keep it going in Korea, or are they getting the Asian Market?  I thought there was three markets, NA, Europe, and Asia?  Each had a seperate company running the online play for them.

Not me!  In fact, I just thought of a use for the nifty new spoiler tags.  Well, they're sorta new.  I'm going to label them NSFW and fill them up with HOBBIT PORN!  You know you'll look.  You won't be able to help it.

HanbitSoft claims Hellgate is still not dead.  It will be free-to-play, including the formerly subscriber only content,  and they are working on additional patches.

Here is the email they sent out:
Quote
Hanbitsoft have taken a U-turn with the action RPG Hellgate London and revealed the game will continue.

Hellgate London was set to close down at the end of this month with Hanbitsoft pulling all online support. This evening Hanbitsoft issued a statement announcing the game will continue with full server support and future content updates.

Hanbitsoft are now citing the developers as Redbana US Studio following the demise of Flagship Studios and they will be in charge of developing future updates.

Focus will now be placed on "strengthening community features while maintaining the speedy and thrilling action game elements"

A large patch is planned and HanbitSoft plans "to combine the two game play modes, unifying the split two communities into one. Also planned are class balance improvements and differentiation of each of the 5 acts. Gamers who attended the conference applauded this announcement".

Sensibly Hanbitsoft will be turning the game into a free to play model. This will please many players who thought the game should always have been based on a free to play model but may upset those who paid for a lifetime 'Founders' subscription when the game was originally released.

Thank you!  See you online!

Dacar92 and the entire Hellgate: London team at Incgamers.

I don't even remember where I put the game.  I've been so disorganised this year past.  I liked playing this game now and then.  I wonder I'll be able to play the single player game with all the content.  If not, oh well - not caring too much, really.

Why?  What did 2.0 do?  I don't remember.  It says you'll be able to play all the subscriber stuff for free.  Of course, I had all that because I had subbed a month or so before.  I quit playing when they ditched the test server.

The test server had the patch on it, so it's not shocking.

2.0 took most of the suck out (note that this did not actually add non-suck properties).

Huh. So this means US support will continue? If so, I approve.
And I think every gamer knows the lifetime sub was only ever a fundraising plan to keep FSS afloat, with game features tacked on to justify the money.  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly? Not surprised to see the subscription plan get tossed.

I had to think about it, too, but I finally remembered why I liked it.  That patch fixed Blademasters, put in shared stashes, consignment house, respecs but the most important addition of them all was SPLITTING STACKS!  How could a game forget that sort of thing.  So annoying!
