Well Long Dark wolves ain't like that, they fuckin ate me last night. Stupid geomagnetic whatchamacallit.
Wolves sense weakness if you are injured/tired/hungry they are more likely to attack. If you run after being spotted, they will catch you and eat you. If you see a wolf in the distance crouch and he will ignore you unless you are in it's path. Their behaviour is erratic and they will attack other wildlife if in the vicinity. If you are spotted then back away slowly until you reach a safe spot (if there is one). If you have meat then drop it (down on the d-pad if you're using a controller) they will eat it for a while allowing you to run, but make sure their face is in it before you run, they do like a chase. Finally you will get attacked, make sure you always have knife or hatchet or they will fuck you up.

I'm going to escape, come back, wipe this place off the face of the Earth, obliterate it and you with it.

I'd gone into a hydro dam facility looking for food. I'd based myself at a logging camp and had run out of anything edible. Having found enough cereal bars and the like in the upper floor of the dam facility to get my calorie bar near full I'd ventured down into the lower level and immediately got attacked by a wolf that was lurking down there. I'd fought it off and escaped but there were two more lurking outside and they both jumped me as soon as I exited the facility. I died.
I'm trying to avoid any maps or wikis or anything like that, see what it has to offer a clueless newbie :)

Really? I don't know much about these things. Even wolves actually starved to death?
yeah, wolves are pretty anti-threatening. they attempt to avoid humans at all costs. you could walk past a set of active wolf dens wearing raw meat and it would not get you any closer to being killed. As I understand it that is true of North American wolves (to the best of my recollection there has never been a fatal wolf attack on humans reported in North America), but not true for European varieties. I might have read that in a comic book though...

Dig it. I'm not sure if I'll wait until all 5 episodes have been released before going back to it or not. Loved the survival mode and a story on top of that could be real fun.

This has left early access and is now in (almost) full release. The story mode campaign's first two episodes are available with three more to follow. The first two supposedly have roughly 15 hours of game play in them. I'll have to re-install this soon and check it out.
