AP is running the story now. Prince is dead at 57. No details yet on how.

This sucks. Him and Bowie in the same year.

Maybe? He was 57 going on 22.

Maybe we can finally get that bizarre Kevin Smith documentary.

Yes, this sucks pretty hard for music.

He was evidently hospitalized with a very bad Flu over the weekend.

Well damn, he was one strange dude, but he could sure as hell play the guitar. Never saw him live, but his Superbowl Halftime show was probably the best one I've ever seen.

RIP

Good night, sweet Prince.

Seriously, fuck 2016. First Bowie, now Prince.

And Glenn Frey as well.

Sad news, he was a very talented musician.  I really enjoyed his music in the 80s.  The 90s?  Whenever.

Good god what is going on. 57 is way too young ...

Pretty sure his video for "I Would Die for You" is burned into my memory more than his others. Really know you are getting older when the actors and musicians you grew up with start kicking off.

Immensely talented but eccentric guy.  Music lost a true artist here.  Being from Minneapolis and having watched him up close in the early 80's, it's another part of my youth gone.

Sad day.

Shit, another really unexpected death  Heartbreak

There were a lot of similarities for me between Prince & Bowie actually. Both incredible musicians, extremely influential in the music world, both a bit... odd. Also, I liked both of their early works much more than later stuff.

AIDS. Not trying to troll or be a dick, just a guess given his past lifestyle and going from "flu" to corpse in a couple of weeks. Could have been untreated pneumonia too, but any decent health care provider would have found that in plenty of time to prevent his death. THere are some cancers that don't have any noticeable symptoms until you're pretty much done for, and even then they feel like a flu. Lymphoma comes to mind.

But this does in fact suck, Prince and Morris day were the bulk of the music I listened too in high school. Purple Rain was one of the first movies I went to the drive-in to see, if you get my meaning.

That is what I was thinking as well. Definitely a possibility, given his age (since his sexual prime would have been right during the epidemic).

Random touch with Prince story...

I get a random call at 3AM from a friend who's going through a bad breakup and is just a complete shitshow. Said friend is a music producer. He puts me on hold about 10 minutes into the call as he's got another call. He comes back a few minutes later, "it's Prince on the other line, you should talk to him."

The fuck?

Next thing I know, I'm in a conference call with this guy and Prince.

"What are we gonna do about our boy?", Prince asks.

"I don't know! You're Prince, you're asking me? Work your magic, man!"

"Alright."

"Okay guys, you work this shit out without me, Prince, it was nice talking to you... At three in the fucking morning..."

Bizarre.

Prince put Dave dressed up as Prince (holding pancakes) on the cover for the Single "Breakfast Can Wait."

I remember seeing that live on TV and my fiancee and I looking at each other, each thinking how much Prince just kerpwned that stage.

He is one of the most underrated musicians of our time, I've likened him to a funky modern Hendrix (who was also very experimental). And style for days.

TBH I'm more surprised that apparently he was this popular. It must have been before my time, because I've only ever heard of him as a punchline.

Were you a teenager or in your 20's during the 80's? There's not really a current equivalent. I guess sort of like Taylor Swift if she sand about stuff besides her bad relationships.
