It's just not enough. When someone like Tirion is hitting me on the wrist for 60-80 with a sharp machete and I'm hitting him for 30-40 on a shoulder hit, 60 on a headshot with a pepperbox revolver it's very hard to do enough damage to win. The fact that dodge is doubled if he chooses to dodge and guesses right also gives him a reasonable chance of some of my shots missing, especially since I can't win a focus on the arms contest.

Shooting gear is pretty average too. There's very few items that add +15 shooting but quite a few with those sort of numbers for vigor. I suspect they put these in the game on the assumption they'd help boost workers since quite a few add aim as well.

Our gear isn't that great, but I'm one level behind being able to use the Corrosive Acid, then I'll have four pieces of the Charlatan's Set and be well on my way.  I've noticed that ever since I started actively gearing up I'm doing much better and being dueled less by random scrubs.

For some reason I'm not being killed straight away anymore when my protection timer is up. Are they purposely leaving me at low health?

After coming out of KO timer yesterday I queued up three duels against the Eagles guys went afk for twenty minutes when I came back I was KO'd again  why so serious?

Turns out Ullstein dueled me in the middle of it.

I attacked a bunch of Eagles workers and adventurers yesterday, including JBona - the little tit that spammed us all calling us cowards. Yes - he's a VERY dueling centric build. He squeaked out a win the first time due to corrosive acid's dreadful range, then pummeled me into the ground the second time. I rested up and then went back to some adventurers, and decided to see how I'd fare against a similar level adventurer also in full charlatan gear:

Righ wins the duel, gains 14 experience points and steals $1744 from Dr. Bubi.

Yow, I'll chance that again!!!

Dr. Bubi passes out. Righ wins the duel, gains 14 experience points and steals $1163 from Dr. Bubi.

So he lost $5232 and I gained $2907. Needless to say, I dropped town and am going shopping.

You know, I was wondering why a few Eagles had attacked me today.  Thanks, Righ!  I'm now off to sack their town.

They're waiting for the fort to be maxed.  I don't want to be defeatist but there's little chance we'll be able to hold the fort with the retarded 128 vs 128 fights.

Have you considered leaving town once your immunity expires and not rejoining until you're in position to attack the people you want to attack?

You'd probably get indignant telegrams from your victims but who cares what they think?  awesome, for real

The ever-increasing town rejoin timer makes that impractical for habitual use, I suspect.

So I've got a few thousand dollars. Should I use it to buy a gun for fort fighting or should I buy something to let me do more advanced jobs?

Also - I've saved the skill points from my last few levels. I've got 24 to spend. If I pumped them all into Aim or Dodge would it make any difference to the results when I get attacked? Right now, I'm pretty much a pure builder with all of my points in construction and strength.

Wouldn't affect much. Since you're a pure builder. Buy something to do more advanced job I guess, the game's sorta left pure workers very defenseless against attacks. I just can't fathom how 20+ dodge is going to help when someone who is a duelist has over 50 aim probably in his dueling gear, and you're in your working clothes and unable to hit him back.

I have, but as Samwise pointed out, the timer increases every time you leave...

Also, for some reason I though you'd have to be a member of a town to fight at a fort fight ?

You can't fight in a fort battle if you've been koed in a duel?  If true, it makes the actual fort battle pretty retarded since you can ko a whole town easily with 2-3 good fighters.

I seem to recall reading that you can participate in fort battles while KOed, though if you go into it with half your hitpoints already missing, that might be a mistake.

Oh well, I'll guess I'll just go for the advanced jobs then. But someday I'm going to respec into fighter mode and beat the shit out of people.

I dunno, its going to depend on the gear you can buy. Melee gear is fairly good with +aim and once you've got drilling for oil, there's not a lot of jobs that are even slightly close for somebody with lots of construction. If you were to put all those points into aim, you would at least be able to hit people, even if they can hit you back very easily. Garb up in fancy dress suit, fancy riding boots, fancy felt hat and fancy bow tie and I reckon you'd win a bunch of fights if you picked your targets well.

I've hit >200 construction on world 5 with my Lincoln's top hat, fancy bow tie & red cotton jacket. I'm considering doing the same thing. Certainly don't need more construction for jobs.

Being KO'd in a duel doesn't affect your ability to fight in fort fights and vice versa, although it might limit if it's near the time. Being KO'd in a fort fight doesn't even stop you participating in more fort fights
