Wait.. people can keep Tigers but not Hedgehogs?  swamp poop

I don't think people in California can keep tigers.

By "here" I meant California, we have a lot of rules about things beyond your standard cat/dog/bunny/rodent type pets. No ferrets, no hedgehogs, no sugar gliders, etc. etc. Stuff that might get out and form feral nuisance populations is the general idea (although I have a hard time imagining that would happen with hedgehogs.)

Cats would probably be on the list if they were a new thing popping up as a pet today.

Rightly so, I'm thinking, given how big of a problem feral cats are in some areas.  I saw a documentary a while back about coyotes returning to SF and how they might actually help restore some equilibrium to the ecosystem by cutting down on smaller carnivores and mesocarnivores, like cats and raccoons, which wreak havoc on the lower tiers of the food chain if there's nothing higher up keeping them in check.

Ah California..  Looks like you just need a permit, same with a Tiger, etc.  By "Illegal" I thought he meant an outright ban, not the usual "get a damn permit."  Which you're supposed to do for dogs/ cats anyway.

Nah, it isn't like a dog license type permit. This is a 'go in front of a state commission and argue that you have the necessary facilities and purpose to have one of these things' type permit. For all intents and purposes they're illegal for members of the general public.

A tidbit from the list of restricted species that cracked me up, btw:

(A) Order Primates-Monkeys, Apes
All species (W), except Family Hominidae not restricted.

And back to the cute:

That is off the damned hook. or perch. as the case may be.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

I was going to find a third source of that same singing parrot and say "I think this one is even better!" but then I got bored. The joke being you both linked the same damn parrot. I am laughing in my mind so hard I fell out of my mental chair.

One more, 5 days old now:

Much more puppylike now... They have their fur explosion at about 5 weeks.

I like the name Oscar! I don't know why, but it seems to fit a black and white - my wife also wants a Bombay kitten, which she will insist on calling Lt. Ripley.  Facepalm

I've been stocking up on dog equipment today (crate, bowls etc), and I have a first toy ready for him for the ride home. A plush cow.  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Your public requires a newfie puppy update.

Just FYI.

I honestly did not think they even came that small. I expected them to be the size of a full-grown cat or small dog when born.
