I will say this: DirtyBirdy has been extremely helpful in teaching me the finer points of the game.  He's given me some good tips and helped me better understand the way to play an adventurer.

I think the forum warrior stuff is just a standard part of any pvp game.  Try and have some fun with it.

It is safe to say we do not buy into that 'first on server' mentality that seems to infest The West.  Is there some sort of secret club that hands out prizes for that nonsense?

We are busy fighting larger town's in the western part of the world.

I am unclear what is the point of PvP once your town is mostly completed.

You seem to forget, all of your attackers have attacked me to the point of a KO. They target me constantly. This was going on before this "war" started. I'm a builder. Congratz.

Not complaining, just saying, your a bunch of hypocrites.

Would you like me to post a screen shot of the log?

It's a tit for tat situation, an endless cycle.

They don't care that they started it, that they are hypocrites, or that if they had showed some semblance of patience, intelligence, and good communication skills we'd have avoided all this headache. Instead they like being internet tough guys. Also, passive aggressive posting.

Also, the peanut gallery comments are kinda stupid.

You're right, we don't care.  I fail to see how we are being 'internet tough guys', my previous post wasn't threatening or belligerent, just topical.

You slapped your minuscule tat around our builders tits first. Your town message and your participation in -FoM- are both based on lies and hypocrisy. You're just a bunch of impotent bullies running a town full of random sheep who are too dimwitted to comprehend your villainy.

Were those new construction jackets from the patch or from Tailor 7? I just now noticed them. I want.

So apparently the new items will show up in shops, but not retroactively.  Meaning that we won't see items which would normally show up at shop levels we've already built, but we'll start seeing new items as we build up levels from here.

Boy am I glad we haven't built up Trammel yet.   awesome, for real

I can see their logic -- you only get so many items per shop level, so they can't just add in the new items to shops that have already gotten their items unless they take some away, and that'd be even more lame.  The most equitable solution they could possibly come up with would be some kind of optional "reroll", and that would be a headache from all angles (not only would they have to code up a new system to handle a one-time need, but there'd be inevitable whining from people who rerolled and got worse stuff and want to take it all back).

But yeah, still kinda lame.

The other issue is that in future upgrades there will be problems as well.  With 1.2v they will be introducing some new weapons - and they will face the same problem.  A random re-roll wouldn't really satisfy everyone, nothing really will.  Honestly, if I were to have to choose between a fancy coat or any of the new items I would choose the fancy coat(for example).

Since there are a set amount of items that each town can carry in their existing shops, a solution that was tabled would be to create a new shop.  This levels the playing field for everyone, as we all would be building this hypothetical store from level 0.  The issue here is that this might interfere with the developers already existing plans for the use of new buildings - notice the empty building beside the mortician and the other beside the bank.

Another idea was to expand the tailor level to 12 and place all the new items on the back end of the build...a pain in the butt really considering their overall value, but it might be a functional solution.

Regardless of what they do, there will be issues.  The chances of any one town getting all of the items for anyone 'set' are virtually nil, so there will have to be out of town shopping done to an extent.  This will help towns develop relationships so when they roll out the forts the smaller towns can compete with the larger towns, or so it would seem.

The meta-gaming of shops with groups creating multiple towns to cover all the bases is the single greatest threat to new player growth. They should really do away with fixed results from shops and allow 'shopkeepers' to spend money + energy to 're-roll' items once every X weeks. Let the workers who have finished all construction on a town become shopkeepers, and have the skills those people bring to the 're-roll' factor into the roll. But have all the different shops use a mix of common worker skills and a shop-unique skill so that people can specialise in being a tailor, gun shop owner etc.

The downside to this approach is that it kicks all the established players with their meta-towns in the nuts. So no downside at all.

I agree with you from the standpoint that players should expect to be hunted in a pvp game.  What makes pvp interesting to me is that a) pvp can mean so much more than just combat and b) there's more to pvp than just fighting battles you have a known advantage in.

Whining about others playing by the rules set up by the developers is silly though.  If it's allowed, you better expect that it will happen... and often.

Is this a Darkfall thread now?  I'm getting my streams crossed.

Nearly all PvP games have some sort of evolved social constraints about when you actually should go about attacking someone else.  Diku populations are generally anti-ganking, even though it's allowed by the rules.

My current favorite PvP game is Estiah, where very few social constraints are necessary because there's almost no downside to being beaten in PvP (There's an upside to winning, but losing is almost completely consequence-free).  So you don't have stupid forum wars about who is evil and hypocritical and unjust and blah blah.  Takes the self-righteousness right out of the game, which is refreshing.

Also, The Brute, in which winning is slightly better than losing, which is slightly better than not fighting at all.  But that's a dumb game for other reasons.

Because when the concept of PvP in a game is brought up everyone automatically assumes they will have a place high in the food chain. Just like very few people consider themselves anything but above average. When it turns out their self esteem was misplaced it makes them unhappy.

With large populations of players the social constraints have very little effect on moderating behavior. Unless the in game means exists to forcibly coerce the evil doers (destroy their town, take their gear, make the game unplayable for them). In FFA pvp muds the users were limited and your reputation had a huge impact on your playing. In WoW it means next to nothing.

Its exactly the same sort of grandstanding that people such as Defenders Of Order used to do in games such as Shadowbane. If you're stirring up trouble with a neighbour in a PvP game and most of your members are sheep who want to be the good guys, its important that you make it seem like the guys you are fighting are a bunch of cunts. This is why its generally better just to be the bad guys in PvP games. It saves having to write so much utter bullshit.

To wit - we get it, Coppers. You're the good guys but you needed a fight. We don't care. We'll be your bad guys. You could have just asked.
