I'm not looking forward to the point where I have to scale up to baby rats to feed our ball python. She's a bit of a fussy eater who won't eat thawed whole mice but has a hard time hunting live ones, so I had to learn how to quickly break the mice's necks. Easy with mice and I don't feel any qualms about it, but rats are going to be harder partly because I do think they're cute.

Reptiles, unfortunately, are among those animals that can be so picky about feeding habits that they'll starve themselves to death rather than learn new habits.

One of the earliest pairs of rats I had were from a neighbor who bought a couple to feed to his snake, and put them in the cage live.

I don't think he replaced the python, but I never asked.

Now you've just dared everybody to post cute snake pictures.

Although I don't know why it seemed to bother him as much as it did, I think the point is that there are no cute snake pictures.  It's un-possible.

It was me!  I didn't even think it was very cute, although I like snakes and have had them living with me in the past and think they can be lovely.  I wanted to calm down Trippy and it was joke-y because of where the thread went.  Having said that, I'm not against a ban if you like although I'm clueless as to why it was so upsetting.  Sorry about that.

If it's upsetting and/or offensive to people, I should delete it, no?  I hate editing or deleting things, though, because it makes people wonder what was there but I'll do it.  Because he cried, mostly.

It was just a picture of a small boy cuddling with a freaking mammoth python.  Neither as cute nor as horrible as made out.  I think the main objection is that the snake could have easily swallowed the kid, and probably would were it just a little hungry.

Just google "cute python".  That's what I did.  The swallowing bit didn't occur to me.

Lifelong Ophidaphobe.  Tons of pages of bunnies and dogs and cats.  Then a MONSTER Snake wrapped round a child.  Christ, my physical reaction almost broke the laptop.

While I can look at pics and documentaries and whatnot, there was something about that picture, also the setting.  I should have KNOWN it was Signe posting it.  Snake Trap.

Brrrrrr.

I'm sorry.  It didn't occur to me that it would kick off someone's phobia.  The picture wasn't intended to be shocking at all!

Not to make light of something that obviously has an adverse impact on you, but it's kind of humorous that a simple picture could cause that reaction.  Hell, you would absolutely hate the safari store we have in the mall close to where I live.  World's (supposedly) biggest captive python behind a flimsy sheet of plexiglass.  Not to mention the way scarier anaconda - that thing is fucking evil incarnate.

Undoubtedly.

While as an Adult I can stand exposure to snakes in small doses, standing near them is not so good.  I got this phobia from a snake leaping at me when I was very young in Blackpool.  True story.

Feel free to make light of it.  I always laugh at my wife running away from the house spiders that I inevitably have to capture and put out.  Everyone's afraid of something.

Anyway, enough rambling:  More Cute Pictures.  I'm sure they'll be great...

Just another shot of my moms puppy. It sat under the chair as I was eating and slid its head onto my crossed feet and fell asleep. Not especially cute pic I guess but a really cute moment  Heart
