Yeah, thank you to bringing this up.  Those damn things are like rats.  Was walking through one on the streets in Nara past a small group.  One of the little fuckers casually looked over and bit me on the stomach.  Tore a hole in my shirt (and skin).  Almost added 'punched a small deer in the face' to things I've done in life.   Ohhhhh, I see.

So yes, they aren't polite at all!  Also diseased and mangy looking.
