Why are baby animals so damn adorable?
It's partly genetic/evolutionary, like Tebonas said, but it's also strongly cultural. We've all grown up with cute Disney animals filling our culture, which has reinforced the inherent cute reaction to baby animals. The Disney animations were/are actually created to emulate the cuteness effect of babies. So if we're going to say its cultural the cultural aspect is pretty much a function of the evolutionary effect That is. We think babies are cute because people who think their babies are cute are more likely to care after them and thus parents who think their babies are cute are more likely to continue their genes. Babies of all sorts tend to have the same sort of distinguishing features due to similarities in how different (but similar) parts of animals grow. So we end up associating cuteness in babies of all types of animals |

Long time ago we had two cats which wouldn't put up with anyone's shit. Well, not from us anyway. But let the relatives visit with their younguns and their grabby little hands, and those cats turned into pacifist saints.
Until the kids left.

 Oscar the newf is a little under a year and a half old now, and our newer addition Bishop is (we think) about 8 or 9 months old. We've had the cat since he was a tiny scrawny flea-infested little thing - his mother was squished by livestock in a barn. The two are utterly inseperable (to the point where my wife and I swear they are plotting evil things). Obviously Bishop is the boss. Two more pics, Bishop when he was much younger, and the day that probably sealed Oscar's fate as Bishop's plaything - he was very heavily sedated after post-neutering complications, and Bishop wouldn't leave his side until he got up. |

I'm going to just disagree with you, literally all the cats I've had have been just as happy to see me when I come back, the only difference is my cats don't bounce and yip, they just demand excessive amounts of cuddling for a week or two. Personally, I prefer the cat method. |

 There's this random goosethat's been hanging around my job for the last two weeks. Nobody really knows where it came from, but it's clear it isn't afraid of people. Local businesses have taken to feeding and leaving water for him/her. Sometimes he even waddles up to my job's front door at 5:30 am to peer into our window and quack randomly.   |
