Woman accused of killing boyfriend in fight over deer meatAssociated Press
CASSVILLE, Mo. - A woman was charged Monday with fatally shooting her on-again, off-again boyfriend over the weekend when he went to her home north of Exeter to retrieve deer meat from her freezer.
Adella Fae Patton, 44, faces charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death Sunday afternoon of Kevin L. Madison, 45, also of the Exeter area.
Barry County Sheriff Mick Epperly said deputies previously had intervened in disputes between the couple, who had lived together but weren't at the time of the shooting. He also said Madison had been charged with domestic assault in the past.
Epperly said the dispute started after Patton called Madison, wanting him to get the meat out of her freezer. Once he arrived at her home down a dirt lane off Route CC, she brought the meat out to him, and an argument ensued, officials said.
"We believe that he had hit her a few times out there in the driveway, and that she had gone back into the house and come out with a weapon," Epperly said.
He said investigators believe Patton fired a warning shot from a revolver before shooting Madison in the forehead when he approached her.
Patton remained jailed Monday in Barry County on a $250,000 bond.
