While we're on animals, the shrike is a tiny bird that impales it's prey on on thorns to kill/eat it.

Wow, I'd heard of that (through the Dan Simmons Hyperion books, which had a scary monster thing called the Shrike) but never actually seen a picture.  That's awesome and sort of terrifying.

If you ever go to the San Diego Wild Animal Park, one of the trails has a tree full of them, complete with all kinds of bits of rabbit hanging off of the tree.

Because fondant tastes like shit and is more sculpture than cake decorating I appreciate the first one more.  That's nice.

My wife owns a bakery, specializes in decorating cakes and would love you based on that comment alone.

My mom made amazing cakes when we were growing up.  For example, my 10th birthday she did a Lightsaber.  She carved up the cake and set it out in a line then frosted it green and black.   My sister got a cookie monster (not using a pan to do it) and my kids have had Batman, Blue from Blue's Clues and a Transformer. (As the ones that stand out in memory right now. )   She's always made the icing from scratch and it's been fantastic.

Because of that I appreciate the work and artistry of true cake decoration, instead of this cake boss bullshit nonsense everyone flips over these days.
