That's great. The Canadian prime minister is too worried about how he looks. The ass.
I am thinking more glass half full.  Harper, being the World's ultimate wingman, dropped something to assist his mates.
Or he's looking down her blouse.

Canada, America's largest oil reserve
The USA is America's largest oil reserve. Today, the US produces more oil than Canada and Mexico combined. It produces more oil than any other single country uses. Before 1991, only Saudi Arabia had pumped more oil per year than the US... and only during the 6 years between 1976 and 1981. Russia didn't start consistantly out-producing the US until the turn of the 21st century. We're still the #3 oil producer in the world. Additionally we import slightly more than we produce.

We are also the world's #2 coal producer. Also #2 in natural gas... more than Canada and the entire EU combined.

Just because we've sucked them nearly dry doesn't make them any less impressive. Nor does having all that oil hiding under its arctic bedrock and mixed up in its tar sands make it any easier to extract.

Sorry. Sorry. Don't derail. In other news, I know the kid who drew the White Whale thing. Years ago. Before it had the FFFUUUUUUU on the bottom.

Apparently not a shop, according to the comments at wired. The news report linked in the comments has some interviews with some of the residents who were in the building in the picture. "

this pretty much happens every year here in Seattle. Being a the highest point in Seattle scares the poop out of my cats come SeaFair.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Out of all the claims of why it's shopped, this one seems legit.

The cat snorting is probably the funniest thing I've seen all week. It makes me laugh so much. My co-workers thinks it's disturbing though.

When we lived in Evanston, north of Chicago, the Blue Angels came to do a show downtown, which we didn't know was happening. They came in very very very low just over our apartment building. You could hear them coming and it got louder and louder and louder and louder. We had no idea what it was, we were basically convinced a plane was crashing into our building, and it was terrifying. We ended up grabbing each other in terror, certain we were about to die. Then we looked out the window on the south side of the building and they weren't much farther from our roof than the plane in that photo.

He depth of field on the plane one is a bit strange. Have to be fairly low aperatue to get the shot that clear and yet everything in the foreground is in focus and the tree in back is way out of the field.  Cool shot either way.

One of our deer leases was north of Austin back when Bergstrom was still open.  My favorite spot to hunt was on a steep bluff overlooking a dry riverbed, where the opposing bank had a much more gradual incline.  Orthogonal to that was a pretty wide and deep ravine cutting across the bed.  I got buzzed a few times from them flying through that cut.

It's startled me since hill behind blocked the sound of the jet approaching, but also really awesome to have a plane flying a hundred yards away at eye level.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

In Montana in the 70's and 80's, especially in the back country, you'd occasionally get treated to a B-52 doing nap-of-the-earth practice, flying mountain valleys below the ridgelines (to simulate how they'd penetrate Soviet air defenses).  It could be...disturbing, especially if it happened early in the morning before you had intended to wake up.  B-52's have 8 huge engines, and no sound dampening like a civilian aircraft would, having one fly over your bedroom or tent 300 feet AGL unexpectedly is a passable proxy for being underneath a freight-train.

I remember an airshow many years back where they did a low flyover with a B1B bomber (500 ft?  Not sure, but really, really low).  It instilled an instant fear of God in me.  Holy criminy, I would not want to be on the receiving end of something like that.

As any good dictator or totalitarian regime knows, after a few trips to the Farnborough Airshow you no longer fear the sound of bombers flying overhead.

I lived for years under a military flight path. It was fucking great for playing out in the meadow when I was a kid. "Hit the deck, BOMBERS!" Besides take-off and landing, they'd circle around and run maneuvers. It was like an air show all the time there...maybe without the blue angels stuff....

I only found out today due to all the "new digitally enhanced moon landing footage" that NASA lost the original recordings.  How the hell do you lose the only copies of something so important?

They didn't lose them, they wiped and reused the tapes so that they had enough for other work. Hi-tech storage media in 1969! A guy at the Parkes relay station in Australia was also recording it, and he was considered to be doing something experimental.

There was an archive copy, it has gone missing.  Might have been re-used, might have been smuggled out into a private collection (there was apparently a lot of "shrinkage" in Apollo artifacts during the late 70's).  They don't know for sure.

What Tale and Mahrin said.  The leading suspicion is that they simply recorded over it in the 70's when there were a lot of satellites out there producing a lot of data and not enough magnetic tapes in NASA to record it all.
