Yesterday marked 3 years since Curiosity landed on Mars, and to celebrate they released an extremely high resolution picture from mars.

It's strange how "real" it looks.  Like it could be a desert on Earth.  Photos from the moon have this very obviously weird unearthly look to them that makes them somehow less tangible.

When she crossed over, she was just a ship. But when she came back... she was bullshit!

Yeah, if you showed me the picture with no prompting and asked me where it was taken, I'd guess it was somewhere in the American southwest, perhaps Nevada.

This whole "turn every video into an animated .gif" thing annoys the piss out of me. The god damn animated images are larger than the videos.

'Reality' is the only word in the language that should always be used in quotes.

Exactly what I was thinking.

What really pulled me out of it was that when we got the side shots of the car the wheels were moving too fast. They were not in synch with the ground, like it was doing a burnout at 150 MPH, or had spinners on it.

<gatling rubber bands>

I've seen these before and the only problem with them is the reload time. I think it's like 30-40 mins to reload all those rubberbands.

If you can build that, couldn't you also build a mechanical (cranked or motor driven) loader to go with it? Doesn't seem like it would be a much harder problem.

Imagine that sitting next to a Panda on an airplane is so boring that you have to pull out your monitor to watch a movie.

Also, they are clearly violating some rules here, no way that Panda knows how to operate that emergency exit door.

I was just reading the other day about the female panda at Edinburgh zoo, how will apparently take a swipe with her claws at any keepers that stray too close. Pandas are bears and they will eat a motherfucker if they don't have to move to do it. It seems kind of crazy taking any animal, let alone a moderately sized carnivore, on a plane.

Although I guess we let people on, the panda is probably safer all told.

I want to know more about this!  Was this a chartered flight or commercial?  Is that kind of legroom first class or business class only?  Do they have any flights in the U.S.?

Oh, I guess the panda's cool too.

I maintain that there is nothing about my earlier post that indicates I believed it.  That is the story I'm sticking with.

It might not be real, but it should be.
