Oh wow, that is gorgeous. Wonder how much it'd cost.
Considering how much money you would have to throw at it to make it even passably liveable even AFTER you bought it, probably far, far too much. Still very nice to look at though.

I don't actually need a lot of space. I'd be cool with the bulk of it being left to nature.

Because water is incompressible.
I know it's not a picture. Shut up.
Doesn't matter, the pressure from the water will compress the air to the point where it applies the same pressure as the water would, if the water were in the barrel. Air being more compressible than water just means that water will press into the barrel in order to achieve the equalization. For an example of this, take a cup and turn it upside down then push it into a tub of water. Notice how the entirety of the cup is not filled with air? This is because the water compresses the air until the pressure of the water is equal to the pressure of the air

Sticking a glass in water is an example of Boyles law, which has absolutely nothing to do with gun barrels exploding. It's not the air in the barrel which is a problem, it's the smokeless powder which continues to burn more completely and create higher pressures behind the bullet the longer it is trapped. Say, by increasing the length of the barrel, or by sticking something in the barrel which slows the rate at which the bullet leaves (like something which exhibits more inertia than air). Incompressible is a mighty strong word. It's compressible in a technical sense, but nobody really cares.Obligatory awesome: why Syria isn't going to win at artillery duels with Turkey.

Yeah, America has sold them them a lot shit over the years. They pretty much have the best equipped military in the region, alongside Isreal and Saudi Arabia.

I said that it did not matter whether or not the barrel was filled with air or water, because a submerged weapon will have the same pressures in the barrel regardless of whether or not the barrel is filled with water or not. The explanation that "the barrel was filled with air that is why there was no problem" is wrong. There wasn't a problem because the gun is strong enough to be fired underwater.

The explanation that "the barrel was filled with air that is why there was no problem" is wrong. There wasn't a problem because the gun is strong enough to be fired underwater. That's possible (with a short-barreled pistol and a light powder load), but you're still wrong. Water pressure has nothing to do with it. You've had it explained to you two different ways, did you have to take any physics courses for an Econ degree? Because somebody who didn't sleep through high school physics should have gotten it by now: The action explodes because the *inertia* of a column of water in the barrel causes breech pressures far beyond the norm. Keep the barrel full of air and the breech over-pressure doesn't happen. --Dave

OK, so the barrel is filled with air. The charge explodes pushing the air into the water which happens to be outside the barrel. Magically the inertia of the water outside the gun barrel is not transferred to the air inside the gun barrel via the classical mechanics that you should have been taught, but apparently weren't, in high school. In order to get the bullet out of the barrel you must displace an amount of water equal to the amount of air within the barrel because you are pushing the air out of the barrel and into the water. The back pressure in the gun barrel is the same because there is water outside of the gun barrel. The inertia of the air is the same as the water because there is water behind the air which must also be pushed out of the way. Just like if you put a piece of plywood in front of a brick wall pushing the plywood out of the way depends entirely on how hard it is to push the brick wall out of the way. And it would not matter if it was instead a sponge in front of the brick wall the determining factor is still the motherfucking brick wall. Either way it turns out that I was wrong: From some googling it looks like if you're going to fire a gun underwater you want the barrel filled with water. If it is not filled with water the pressure spike caused by the air compressing is likely to damage the weapon since the barrel is more able to deal with even pressure loads. Which makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Evidence comes from multiple independent tests as well as the literally hundreds of videos of people firing fully submerged weapons on youtube without problems http://kwc.org/mythbusters/2006/04/episode_51_myths_reopened.htmlhttp://www.dlsports.com/underwater_handgun_shooting.htmlhttp://www.geek.com/articles/geek-cetera/what-happens-when-you-fire-a-pistol-underwater-20110820/

As the website tagline says; it's not fitness it's life(style). It's LA going to the gym is about being seen, not getting fit. Ed: That cat picture, while amusing, is a nightmare to fix. We had a cat that did that and it took me two months to finish the spackle work needed to fix the drywall she tore to shreds after she died. (Feline Leukemia at 9 months.)
