I should've remembered to check this thread for Ultron impressions before jumping into it blind. ACK!

Welp, that was a painful unfun ~2 hours down the drain! To keep the theme with the tears on the last page, "I guess I learned my lesson". /taskmaster

Pretty much. There were 4[5?] of us in p1, but apparently everyone silently bailed during the phase (it's pretty fucking stupid that the later phases don't autoscale based on # of people, btw) except for a Rogue who spent 90% of the rest of the time running back and getting 1-shot. I played a moderately-geared Rocket -- I figured that since I can hold my own in cMM and cICP (cookie-cutter gunner spec ~500 omegas, class uniques with some challenge bonuses, maxed pet/legendary, 2 decent and 2 mediocre artifacts) I'd be fine here. I never died, either, though some of those telegraphed moves are obnoxious and/or impossible to avoid with 500+ ping.

I know for sure it was more than 70 mins after p2 because I counted the number of ults... so it may be closer to 1.5h than 2h. Still probably one of the most concentrated "anti-fun" experiences I've ever had in this game (it's extra annoying because the instance design is actually quite good)

YOU are fine, but it is content for a full group.  It can't be soloed in any reasonable amount of time, specially since you really need to get gold rewards for it to be worth doing.  There is no reason to stay if your team bails, and since there is no reason to keep going if you don't gold people tend to bail when things start looking bad.  I think five people at your level would have done ok, probably got gold in most of the phases.  You alone with a derpy rogue was just a huge waste of time.  Going only with guild groups is about 10 minutes for an average run, we have not managed to crack the 8 minute clear required for the achievement even with the best players.  A bad run should be no more than 30 minutes though.

They keep adding completely ungated high end content with zero explanations or warnings for newer players, it's a bit silly.

Yeah, pretty much. I actually read through the entire description, and the only bit that hints at difficulty is "This is no walk in the park." which is pretty much just glorified flavor text. Compare it to red terminals saying "Extreme difficulty" or industry city patrol saying "dangerous and tumultuous". The tooltip of cMM/cICP says "for well geared heroes"... what's a well-geared hero?

Having hard content is fine, but if you're going to add it to what is basically LFR, please to be making sure it's actually LFRable by adding extra incentives to finish and/or rewarding PERSONAL participation if you absolutely must give bronze/silver/gold bonuses, auto-filling groups if people bail, scaling enemies to number of active players, etc etc. Most of those mechanics are already in place elsewhere in the game, so it's not like it'd be technically impossible.

edit: oh yeah, and the reason I stayed was also kinda simple -- the fun-to-cockstab ratio only started to tip over in the later phases. The first few phases are actually fairly quick and fun, even with a low number of players. P1 had 4-5 players for some of it, so the bar filled quickly, and me + Rogue capped it off just a few seconds short of silver. P2 just had tons of blue/yellow enemies, so even with 2 people it wasn't too bad (actually got silver there, though I suppose it's a guaranteed gold with 5 people). It was P3 and P4 that was really obnoxious with those MASSIVE damage sponge enemies with tons of one-shot attacks that I have to chain dodge and thus can't damage them properly except with my sig and the occasional dot. I guess I could've just quit then, but by that time I was already invested into the thing, and wanted to see it through... plus I didn't think it'd last as long as it did.

I'm thinkin about jumping into this over the long weekend.  Thoughts?  Waste of time?
I realized this was one of the games that I neglected to try over the past few year's life confusion.  I am terribly behind.

There are a few duds among the 48 freaking characters, but at this point they are very very few.  Like three or four tops, just stay away from deadpool, loki, colossus and hmm taskmaster maybe and you'll have a good time.  What am i saying, you are playing Gambit i imagine, in which case have fun.

Cable.  Stay the fuck away from Cable.

In other news, my random here yesterday was... Cable.

He may as well have 3 fucking buttons, one on each tree.  'Gun', 'Aura', 'Random Broken Stupid Shit'.

It should be noted that Cable and Deadpool are the last two heroes that still need their 52 reviews.  Cable should be July, Deadpool August.

The GLF weeklies and dailies were really handy for banking up the commendations for leveling up your gear. My pants are now OP. The climb to the medallion and insignia upgrades are a bit daunting though.

Anyway, I finally finished up the 69 upgrades last week and have been tooling around with various heroes to try them out. I think the most surprising result is Storm. She was really strong when I started this time last year, but power creep had crept her by toward the end of the year. I decided to dust her off and spend some time in regular ICP to farm up her uniques. Fortunately this event made that even less annoying than usual, though getting her recommended slot 3 to drop was a bit of a pain. Anyways, I find that she's a reliable player in CMM now that she's geared well. Where she really shines is handling the big packs of mobs. All of that aoe is really handy.

The medallion and insignia upgrades are extremely small, the real prize from that vendor is the higher tier legendaries.

I dunno, Cable sucked but at least he had a workable leveling build in his mental line.  Deadpool is still sitting at 31 because he just got too squishy and painful to push past that point.  Plus his synergies are easily ignored since team-up beat gives similar or better bonuses.

I don't wanna disagree too much here, but the wife got him to 60 and loved every minute.  So either he got changed after you gave up or my wife just has a higher tolerance for pain.

Who knows.  Also, try to resist the obvious joke.  Paelos will be along in a minute.

I didn't have much trouble with Deadpool. His melee build was sufficient for leveling and I think I'm one of the rare people who enjoyed listening to him, "NO USEFUL SKILLS WHATSOEVER!".

Has anyone seen anything about that rumored UI rework? I wonder if they were going to do anything to help with DoT tracking and things like that.

Deadpool and Cable are both bad right now, but at least Cable's synergy is great for every character. As for DP survival, yes his taunting doll is amazing even as a 1-point ability.

For the UI, I haven't heard of anything official but I would love some more dot/status tracking. I'd imagine boss indicators could easily have icons added to them to show things like weakness/slow/frozen/etc. Then again, I would also imagine a 2nd hotbar, inventory/bank searching and sorting, an in-game clock, etc wouldn't be too difficult to implement but here we still are without any of those.

I followed this Cable build for leveling, and it wasn't THAT bad... it's like a Tesco Value Thor with twice the buttonmashing and constant spirit problems (somewhat solved by using Scrolls of Pama and leveling entirely in MM / ICP). Definitely wouldn't have bothered without massive server-side xp bonuses, though.

I'm left wondering exactly how badly this game was thrashing my hard drive.  Moved it over to a SSD the other night (just because I had one and wanted to compare) and holy shit it's now smooth as silk.  I always assumed my slowdown was due to latency or suchlike, it turns out it's mostly been HD seek times or some shit.

Odd.

He needed the skill duration normalization he's receiving, and the damage buffs really aren't that significant. He's good, but he's not amazing (even post-buffs atm).

Yah, I started out with Rocket (who seemed immediately OP) and then when I got past the tut and saw (you guessed it) Gambit... I picked Gambit.  Love the voiceover work for him btw.  And I'm liking the skilltree selection, but starting out he's definitely not as easy to play as Rocket+Groot.  But FUCK, he blows the crap out of everything as expected; like, the whole screen - all the time.  I imagine him not being very group friendly for that reason.

Any build recommendations?  His tree seems kinda just "throw a dart a pick one."

I enjoyed the build linked way back here with street sweeper and the fan of cards. Someone was using it for a farming build.

He gets squishy later on, but with the new teamups and sticking to ICP or MM it's not a problem.

I broadly use this one and I like it.  He's a strange wee bugger, Gambit.

I played a whole lot yesterday and decided to see about getting my teamups to 60. Quicksilver was the most surprisingly handy one. He has this spinny thing that pulls mobs in much more reliably than any of the player based ones and it moves bosses. Handy.
