I bought a 2nd 360 when the frist one red-ringed. Now that the first one is fixed, I am courious about using 1 account on 2 systems. Do I need to get a memory card and do some sort of transfer when I want to swich consoles? Is it reliable/safe? Is is easy?

I've thought about that a lot and came to the conclusion that it's worth just getting a second live account.

I broke one moving it from the bedroom to the livingroom. No chance that it would get to you in working order even if was so kind.
Love the 360 to death but damn are they fragile.
I might just get a second tag as there is little overlap in the games that I want to play on the 2 TVs. Viva Pinata = relaxing bedroom game. Crackdown = action livingroom game. Kinda want to play Oblivion on both, have to make more characters I guess.

You can transfer your profile to a memory card. If the memory card is in the machine it will read it without you having to do anything and add the profiles stored there to the ones available. You can then just move the memory card to the machine you are using and not have to copy anything. I would call it reliable and safe. Your just storing your profile so if you lose the memory card the profile is easily recovered.
Some saved games will transfer to memory card and some won't but that doesn't sound like a concern for you.
I've never had two 360's on the same local network so I don't know but they should have designed it so they recognize each other and can share all this info.

We had 3 360s in the same area. They didn't notice eachother at all and I couldn't find a game that was worth all 3 of us buying to try network play. Except Lost Planet and Lost Planet doesn't have a lan mode.

What happens to all of this shit (and the microtransaction stuff) when your 360's periodically implode?

You download it again or clone the harddrive to a new one (that is, if you're upgrading to the 120gb one, comes with a cloning kit).

You retain ownership to it all though? Even if you need to replace your 360?

The ownership is under your gamertag/xbl account. Not the xbox.

On Transfers:
The new 120GB comes with an adapter to migrate data between HDDs. Elite buyers can also send away for a free adapter.
As far as Live accounts, I believe you can use a memory card to transfer the profiles and whatnot. I assume just for situations like this, or when you'd want to go online as a guest at a friend's house.
