Yeah, but there is no version of "Random Waller" that isn't funny as fuck.

Proprietor of midgets sounds like the sort of thing someone might have had as a job in 1881.

One of jakonovski's brethren thought it a good idea to set a church a on fire.  Ohhhhh, I see.

Getting drunk and setting churches on fire is almost a national tradition already. The Norwegians do it for the devil, we do it for the devil booze.

That's kind of an unfair chart, because aren't there only like 7 people in Finland NOT in a black metal band?

And those seven people are in black anthemic doom-ambient metal which is totally not the same thing as black metal.

What was that site that was entirely pictures of drunks in Finnish gutters? Greetings from Helsinki or something like that.

Ok what? Is Black Metal harder than Death Metal? Like, what's the "hardest rock" now? Shit I'm old. And why the heck Finland?

Imagine death metal that you turn the bass completely off, record in a tin can, paint your face white with black leather everywhere, have a band logo that looks like unpronounceable chicken scratch, and not only sing about evil, but BE evil by burning down churches and murdering other band's members you disagree with.  Instant black metal!  That's mostly sarcastic stereotypes, but they exist for a reason...

And why Finland?  Because that part of the world is where black metal (as we know it today) originated from.

OK lets be real here that is a very very one sided take on black metal.

This is black metal:
Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Un2zVoG3NiE

And so is this:
Midnight Odyssey - shards of silver fade    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mSvk_h8X8c
Emperor - Thorns on my Grave  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqw0m8B8ktQ

Darniaq, what is "heavy" or "the heaviest" is a very very squirrelly topic.  Metal forums go round in round in circles debating what is heavy.

If by Heavy you mean what is the most extreme musically then... well maybe technical death metal

Origin - Finite      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIMW0aHN0ks
Brain Drill - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ljgcl_TxXSo
Rings of Saturn -    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6oSVDU_Tvg

or for just WTF really dense music that is difficult to follow

Gorguts - Obscura   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1X0Bejwnko
Gorguts - Colored Sands   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DgPGkk4HNA

and those bands are just kinda off the cuff offerings. Guys and gals really into that scene would scoff at my offerings.

However, Anaal Nathrach's - The Codex Necro which was released over a decade ago and has one foot firmly planted in black metal will still rip your face off:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkM-bRCyzHQ

Or for just heavy riffage, Electric Wizard,

Ufomammut - Eve   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLHR8BrU5B0

Neurosis - through silver and blood    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp7Dz4bh5UE

Sleep - Dopesmoker    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIw7oeZKpZc

or for crazy too many string guitars

Animals as leaders - CAFO     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmfzWpp0hMc

Meat and Potatoes Death Metal
Bolt Thrower - World Eater     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekCmZDO4d8o

Like I said pretty difficult to nail down what is the "heaviest" or most "extreme" or "intense"

For me "heavy" is not about speed but about feel so the heaviest stuff for me is nothing new.

Godflesh

Spite - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SM01LzKZ0J8
Love is a Dog From Hell -   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC30cDdTkec
TRIPTYKON - Aurorae   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmyWeOvF_Sg

and SYL's - City deserves a nod     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZAKk3kxI1o

Ok totally going overboard with this.  If you want to just hear something that was released recently and that will just make your jaw drop, is super heavy but is not metal:

Moon Hooch + Too Many Zooz = Moon Zooz   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xH77nSy0t6Q

TL;DR - Heavy is totally open to interpretation

Holy crap, thanks man! I appreciate this rundown. Got my night planned out going through this.

Cheers glad you appreciate it.  I realized after a couple glasses of wine that I was going a bit overboard, but in for a penny in for a pound.  I really tried to keep it short and I skipped many "mandatory" bands/genres but already I am thinking "I should have included X, and Y, and maybe Z"

anyways a recent release by a band that I think is amazing, but gets looked over by many simply because of their name.  A Greek band by the name of Rotting Christ  Ohhhhh, I see.

Rotting Christ - The Four Horsemen (Rituals 2016)    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4wwM7ZTEW8

Oh and for those who find the crazy vocals too much, a great entry band is Deafheaven, for whatever reason  this band is a great way to ease your way into "extreme metal"  I could ramble about the reasons why, but Elf needs sleep badly

Deafheaven - Sunbather (yep they have a newer album but this is a great intro)   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4wwM7ZTEW8

and for a retro flashback that was mentioned on this forum some years ago.  Pig Destroyer  really just about any of their albums will make your pulse quicken.  Concept album Natasha, or Terrifyer, or Phantom limb etc.   anyways.....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Kqf6vtQmPQ

oh and if you have the time check out:

Lords of Chaos - the book
Until the Light Takes us - Docu (so so)

the Florida Death Metal Scene: Death, Morbid Angel etc.  and the band Cynic look at their album Focus and then ponder about that 1993 release date... Ok now I have gone way too preachy

I do love the fact that everyone around him that notices him being choked is smiling and jostling for a better view. Even the big guy right beside him with the halo.
