I still cannot find anything resembling green Jesus on that map.

I think that's him in the centre, giving the finger to the maelstrom, with the little cross in the middle.  Otherwise, I can't see him either.

Very cool. I kind of assumed that there would be spin on the ball when people are juggling, but the balls would have to have no rotation at all to pull a shot like that off.

Based on my experience juggling you can toss them more with your fingers - which makes the balls spin - or more with the flat of your palm which can stop the ball spinning. If you try juggling ben bags you'll find that it's actually quite hard to make certain things spin. Clubs, knives, and torches on the other hand demand spinning.

Or the camera is being lowered/raised on a tether and because it meets his hands and he is juggling, it looks like he is tossing the camera up and down.

That would be much harder than actually juggling a small camera weighted to always face down. Likely they just edited together the clearest left-to-right and right-to-left from a longer sequence.

Also, since he's clearly OK at juggling, he's probably trying quite hard not to spin the camera ball. And who knows how many takes it took before getting that nice footage smiley

Or you could suspend the camera inside a sphere with bearings and weights so that it always faced down regardless of the rotation of the outside housing.

Just my opinion, but it really doesn't look to me like it's a real ball.

I think it must be testament to how drunk I am, as basically all I can see is a hard cock... Ohhhhh, I see.

(The colours are nice I guess, but not really emotionally engaging)

Apparently it's emotionally engorging however.

It might just be a testament to something else having to do with cocks.

You know now that you mention it, I am looking closely at the gif.  For every other ball, he wraps his fingers around the ball, lowers the ball and sweeps it in towards his thigh before launching it back up into the air.  He appears to do none of those things when it is the camera, judging by the relative movement of the floor tiles.  So I am going with kid brother dangling a camera off a selfie-stick while leaning over a balcony from above.

No you were right the first time except where you said the colours are nice.  The actual images taken by hubble are grayscale and then they just add whatever colours they feel like to make it look awesome.  They are literally photoshopped, it's 90% bullshit.

Did the Hubble touch you in a bad place when you were growing up? Did you know your digital camera takes grayscale images too and "makes up" the colors you actually see?

Here's how the original Pillars of Creation image was edited and composited.

Also, it seems the middle finger is curled in whilst the ring finger is extended.  Which might just mean that the universe is trying to tell us that we've been doing it wrong all these years.  One of you should try that out and report back.

Regarding the colors:  I thought that the argument was that the colors were an artists rendering, where something like a digital camera is actually reproducing the correct colors.  In other words, these colors are make believe.  No?

Yes the Hubble image uses false colors. The main change is the green assigned to the hydrogen filter. It actually should've been red (a different red than the sulfur filter). The oxygen filter also should've been more blue-green. This is what the colors would be more like given the filters originally used:

This was composited from images taken from Earth but the photographer used the same filters as what was used in the Hubble image. More details here.

As for your typical digital camera most of the colors you see in the image are in fact "estimated". You can even end up with false colors. You can read more about it in the link I posted above.

The important difference between digital cameras and Hubble images in terms of colour rendition are that digital cameras attempt to recreate an image in the same way that the human eye sees it. As an example, human eyes are more sensitive to green light than other colours and digital cameras have twice as many green-sensing photosites as red/blue ones.

Yes, both Hubble images and digital cameras recreate colour images from multiple monochrome ones, but they do it in very different ways and for different reasons.

I was in a weird mood and had had a bad day when I posted so it came off angrier than it should have.

The thing that sets me off about NASA pictures like that is the blatant, pandering marketing.  I know it's not realistic but in an ideal world I like to associate science with truth so when a scientific agency that has done so many amazing thing resorts to putting out pseudo-lies to wow people I get all indignant.  Even though I understand they need to pump out pretty pictures to gain public support so that hopefully they still have a budget...

Now every probe that goes up has to have its own fucking anthropomorphic twitter account so that it will appeal to stupid people and I hate it.
