Yep. Fuck right off with taking a picture of that. I guess if you get up that high though, any fear is replaced with astonishment. Of course, then a stiff breeze would pick up and send you to a tumble... and from that height, I'd think you would have plenty of time to think about how dumb it was to do that in the first place.

I'm sure he was clipped in.

Sky diving is like that. Once you are out of the plane, you don't have any sense of height until you get very close to the ground.

That's a great shot.

Pena's Pond in Portugal. Apparently about 20 min outside of Lisbon.

That is an awesome picture, even if I want to puke every time I view it.

Incidentally, I looked at the webpage of the photographer who took that shot.  Holy shit he has some amazing photos.  God I wish I could ever be 10% as good at photography as people like this guy are.  Lots of Awesome photos on his site:

My guess is that it was originally put there as decoration, rather than as any type of real hold. The place has a park-like quality.

Maybe the guy who built it was REALLY serious about protecting his ducks.

You get that kind of thing in Scotland too. Generally it's seen as a folly. They're built for reasons of decoration, keeping locals employed, or vanity.

I went to see Pena Palace in Sintra years ago and that was great. I had no idea about Pena's Pond at the time - wish I did. And yeah, totally a folly. It [the Palace] is real 19th century Romantic stuff  a bit like Castell Coch near Cardiff -  built in the late 19th century by the Marquess of Bute as a weekend getaway place for his family.

It's an incredible, terrible indictment of my 2nd year Architectural History professor that I had to learn what a "Folly" is in a picture thread on a gaming site 20 years after the fact.

Anne-Marie, I always suspected you were worthless and hired only because they wanted your husband - the plagiarist. Good to see I was correct.

Still looks like an A+ zombie apocalypse refuge if you burnt the ramp away. I wonder if it has a well and dungeon that could be stocked with supplies.

I'm going to take a stab (before checking out the site  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?) and guess at Yorkminster.

EDIT: Nope - astoundingly wrong. Yorkminster's (famous) bosses are in a significantly different configuration

Gorgeous ceilings.  Gothic Architecture was some of my favorite.  All the thin structure and light.  Yarr!
