There are some long jetties down in Freeport, and when I was younger dad and I would go out there to fish. One time we had a ray migration or spawning (manta or butterfly) and they kept coming in endlessly for hours. Maybe they were making a big circle, but even then there had to be thousands of them.
It was absolutely amazing to watch.

The physics of that sudden cloud formation:Since heat does not leave the [density-reduced] air mass, this change of pressure is adiabatic, with an associated change of temperature. In humid air, the drop in temperature in the most rarefied portion of the shock wave can bring the air temperature below its dew point, at which moisture condenses to form a visible cloud of microscopic water droplets. Since the pressure effect of the wave is reduced by its expansion (the same pressure effect is spread over a larger radius), the vapor effect also has a limited radius. Basically the same mechanisms that cause contrails, on a significantly shorter term and larger area.
