Stuart Scott is not a lesser celebrity though. I've always looks upon him as an a-lister. In reality, ESPN would suck greatly more than it already does w/o him imo; a trailblazer for sports commentating.
Many people here have no idea about sports, so I figured I'd put it here. Either way, he was probably on the short list of ESPN Sportscenter personalities I could name off the top of my head. He, Berman, Kenny Mayne, Scott Van Pelt, and Keith Olberman were pretty much the reason I watched the network. I've never heard of him, and like this thread (as a concept, not the fact that people are dying) much better than every random mook getting their own thread.

Sam Simon died. I followed him on Twitter- knew he was really sick (and almost assuredly terminal), but he really lived as well and as happily as he could. He joked about his treatments and such. Was really hoping he wold pull through. Fuck cancer in its ass.

Was really hoping he wold pull through. Fuck cancer in its ass. Sad news. Shows how out of touch I am. I didn't even know he was sick. Plus, I didn't recall he had been married to both Jennifer Tilly *and* Jami Ferrell! He had a full life, but 59 is much too soon. Fuck cancer indeed.

Only on f13 would the death of Eli Wallach be eclipsed by Roscoe Coltrane and Big Chin Guy... Rest in Peace Tuco... Real Edit: Early senility? Or just brain fart? He's been dead nearly a year.

I remember reading he had been married to the same woman for like a million years. I loved him. Also, I don't think I would categorise him ad a lesser celeb.

A small but very profound piece of history left the Planet yesterday http://theweek.com/speedreads/560264/nasas-voice-apollo-jack-king-dies-age-84NASA's 'Voice of Apollo,' Jack King, dies at age 84 12:14 p.m. ET
Jack King, who counted down NASA's historic launch of Apollo 11, died on Thursday at age 84, The Associated Press reports.
"Twelve, 11, 10, 9, ignition sequence start. Six, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, zero, all engine (sic) running. Liftoff! We have a liftoff, 32 minutes past the hour. Liftoff on Apollo 11," King announced on July 16, 1969.
A public affairs official with NASA, King counted down hundreds of other rocket launches. His wide-ranging career included stops at Houston's Johnson Space Center — where he helped facilitate the first live television coverage of a joint U.S.-Soviet flight, in 1975 — and later Washington, D.C. to act as director of public relations for the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration.
But King's best-remembered media moment remains his fact-based, measured countdown of the Apollo 11 launch — he told AP in 2009, "I wish I had a penny for every time it was used." https://youtu.be/F9MBpdc6Jyw

Sad, although inevitable..
It's also weird. I just was flipping through one of those terrible buzzfeed "where are they now" lists for Spaceballs yesterday. When it got to him I thought, "Oh right, he died" only to be surprised when it said he retired and was living in Cali. Guess I was just early.

You killed him, you bastard! I remember when Eight Is Enough was new and running on ABC (yes, I am old). I was in love with Kristy McNichol. Little did I know that I had even less of a shot than I normally would with a famous actress

Yep, Patrick MacNee has departed, age 93, with his family around him.
Interestingly, MacNee said that one thing he was very proud of is that John Steed never, not once, used a gun in any of the Series he played him in. He used his brain, his fists and his Umbrella.

He was still alive? Oh my. I recently (as in last August) tortured some online friends I met in RL by tricking them into looking him up on their phones when we were at a bar. I think I scarred them for life. LOL!
