With that little desk space, I wonder about the need for filing cabinets. You can't be doing anything useful with printed stuff. There are spare monitors and cartons of Marlboro Lights in them, aren't there?

What the hell do you do that requires that many monitors? Aside from pretending to be Trippy.

Ha, I hate minimalist/neat deco. I like being surrounded by things I like or find interesting. I get more work done and I feel much more comfortable. It is hard not to work when I have cobra commander and an elite group of crimson guards staring my ass down.  ACK!

I'm guessing Canada because of the Winners store in the shot.

40D and an HDR program called Photomatix I think is what he has been raving at me.

Nice HDR Stewie!

Managed a walk with the camera today! First since my surgery last week. Brain really not in photo mode so nothing special, just a cute goat in the local church graveyard:

Bunk is correct Canon 40d this was with my old 300d kit lens (EF-S 18-55mm) and then I used Photomatix.

Incase you are not sure what HDR It is just 3 or more images merged together to give proper exposure through the whole image.

When creating an HDR you want to make sure each image is lined up exactly. I just set up auto exposure braketing on my camera and fire off 3 shots. This will automatically set one image to 2 stops under exposed, one image to 2 stops over exposed and one image correctly exposed.

Once i have the images I load them into photomatix and it merges them , then I apply some tone mapping to give it that look.

On a side note I just got a 10-22mm lens and am stoked to get out and get some good pics with it.

Brief aside, but someone's been working on a method of using HDR to generate noise-free images. I read about it a year or so ago and it was in early development but it seems there's a commecial app available now.

Their examples don't look as impressive as the stuff I saw before but still, might be of interest to some people.

Apocrypha, that program looks kinda neat but I'm not sure how useful it actually would be. There are enough noise reduction methods in PS to take care of that and if you are going for the arty HDR, well then you are most likely ok with a touch of noise as it adds that nice grainy feel.
I went out yesterday with bunk and took some pictures at a local park with my new ef-s 10-22mm. (he was whining the whole time about the light)
Here is another HDR from yesterday. Oh and in case you felt like looking, I have a few more HDR shots on my site in my Vancouver Gallery http://photosbycy.com

Oh totally agree, it was just your HDR shots made me remember it so I looked it up to see if there'd been any progress since I last read about it.

And your shots are really making me wanna get out and try some again myself  awesome, for real Shame the skies are featureless grey here at the moment :/

That last shot I took was exactly that type of sky; grey, boring, bland. You just gotta have your subject fill most of the frame!  awesome, for real

The one nice thing with that type of sky though is that your lighting while not spectacular is even.

Yeah and I'm afraid to say it's the one thing I don't like about it - because of the sky you get that dark "finger" of sky at the top left. I know it's a tone mapping thing and it's something I really don't like about HDR. Please don't take that as a criticism, it's a really nice photo, it's just what HDR does.

When I'm a bit more able to carry gear around I wanna try some HDR mixed with flash, see if I can get some interesting effects :p

That "thumb smudge" is a fair criticism, it's the same critique I made :)

He's shown me an updated version where he burnt out that grey spot, and it looks much better. I'll admit, he's got me interested in trying some now as well - that picture makes that bridge look waaay more interesting than it was in reality :).

Why do you guys hate grey skies? They are just as cool as any other imo. Often far more interesting if you take time to check out the variegations.
