From jogging today:

As we seem to have so many picture experts here. Spoilered is the original image. Should I have cropped it differently?

Cropping is so subjective :)

I might have done something like this, leaving some sky (plus a little bit of cleanup and tweaking):

What Viin said.  As apoc said,It's a taste thing though and depends on what you were going for.  You appear to have wanted to focus on the trees and trail.  For that I might have cropped it with the tree a little more off center to the left, let them lead the eye through the picture.

Thanks for the feedback!  Heart

And yes, I wanted to be "clever" and have the grass-sky border go through part the picture in two halves. I agree in the end more sky is better.

From today. I didn't know that stupid timestamp thing was on, sort of ruins it.

Been playing with Lightroom 5 and came up with this, which I liked (click for larger version).

That's a fun photo; I think you've overcooked it with the contrast and saturation though. There's enough inherent action in the shot anyway, you shouldn't need to exaggerate it.

Oh, it's completely overcooked. I was playing around with just how ridiculous I could make it.

Very nice, love the lake shot. Is the snake & frog one a crop? The DOF blur is weird, in a good way!

Snake and frog is slightly cropped. I was shooting pseudo-macro mosses and suddenly I heard this weird noise and saw what looked like a frog caught on a branch. When I went over to look, the snake's head suddenly popped out from under that layer of pine branches, firmly affixed to the frog's foot. So I shot without changing the aperture, which was 2.8--if I'd thought about I would have shifted to about 4 or so to get most of the snake and frog into focus, but I was sort of gobsmacked at the whole scene. I'm pro-snake but I also couldn't help but intervene eventually because the frog was making freaky, freaky noises--incredibly piteous, almost human cries of distress.

Much as I'm against interfering in prey-predator things like that, it's probably for the best.  As much as snakes can stretch that frog does look a little big for that guy and he might have burst.  Plus he's only got one leg.. that other one would be a bitch to swallow when he gets to it.

Just one for the pixel-peepers (or cat lovers!). This is the first shot I've just taken with a Fuji x100s, straight out of the camera (RAW converted with ACR). ISO800, f5.6, everything else auto.

Edit: Imgur shrunk it.

I did consider a mirrorless interchangeable (they need a better name for those) but went for the Fuji because of the fast flash sync in the end :)

That's impressively noise free for ISO800, or perhaps my experiences have just been bad with ISO above 100-200.

No, I was thinking the same thing.   I haven't seen that little noise on anything higher than ~400 on my Nikon. Crazy.  Maybe it's the conversion software smoothing things?

Nope, the noise reduction in ACR and in-camera are at default, which is very low. It's an amazing chip in it, it has better low-light capabilities than my D700! I'm hoping to get some time to use it a lot in the coming weeks and really see what it's capable of :)

Tried taking pictures at a fireworks festival tonight and... well.. i didn't succeed very well. After downloading them and taking a look, a majority of them are blurry, which I couldn't tell with the viewfinder.

I got a couple that turned out ok that I'll edit and share, but I don't know how to fix my focus issue since I *thought* I had it set right.

Why are people paranoid about showing their license plates? I mean, it's on show when you're driving around every single day. You park it outside your house every night, at which point both your address and license plate (and often your name too if someone wants to make some minimal effort) are readily available to anyone walking past.

Am I missing something obvious?

Internet stackers vs reality I guess.  People still like to maintain the illusion that handles provide some sort of anonymity.

I've learned some big lessons about shooting fireworks over the last few years from similar problems.  Focus has to be set to infinity, don't try handholding, and use a release or at a minimum your timer.  You don't think you're shaking the camera when you press the button, but boy howdy are you.  I'm going to try locking my mirror up this year to see how much that helps, too.  Lastly, narrow your aperture and push sooner than you think so you get the whole spread of the flare.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.
