What are you listening to currently? I thought this would be a great way to check out new music that I might not find otherwise.
I am a huge music fan and have a very broad range of tastes. Currently my top five on the play list are:
1. Ghostland Observatory 2. Presets 3. Sinatra (Live at the sands is ridiculous) 4. The Clash 5. Hayes Carll
Also trying out a new band- Girls. Sounds like Joe Strummer met Elvis Costello. Interesting, but don't know if it will break into the play list.

I'm on a classic rock kick right now, so mostly:
Rolling Stones The Who Beatles Led Zeppelin etc
But also started listening to more electronica recently:
Royksopp Nightmares on Wax Thievery Corporation DJ Shadow
And finally some other interesting music:
Xasthur Apocalyptica
The only "new" band I'm listening to right now is Dead Confederate.

Porcupine Tree - The Incident (released 3 weeks ago, just keeps getting better with each listen) Gong - 2032 (early days, but another great album) Oceansize - Feed To Feed (4CD, 3DVD set - everything they've released performed live - still digesting) Hawkwind - Levitation (remastered, 3CD set including great live performance) BLK JKS - After Robots (stunning psych/jazz/pop/world/rock band from South Africa) Circle - Hollywood (another left turn from Finnish kraut-metalists, still digesting) Guru Guru - Kanguru (great reissue of the most accessible of the great Guru Guru albums) The Inner Space - Agilok & Blubbo (rare CAN precursor finally surfaces in full) Sun Ra - Atlantis (great free jazz from the 60s) Mastodon - Crack The Skye (finally got this, probably best album they've done) Muse - The Resistance (totally fun escapade into Muse's take on 70s & 80s art-rock)
I'm expecting some good stuff in, so it'll all change soon.

I'm kinda digging some of the few screamo bands that draw more upon old metal maiden-ish/metallica shit. I care not to name them. heh

That's what's in the FJ's disc changer anyway. Also, woot for the new Mastadon, Righ. It motivated me to go to my mother's house and unpack my drums to set up in my basement. Fiancee is...less than thrilled.

If you like DJ shadow I would push you to try UNKLE and Burial; Burial in particular is my favourite artist of the moment. Ladytron and Trentemoller are worth a listen too. Right now I'm listening to Rage against the machine though.

Been listening to a lot of electronica and Darkwave mostly kicked off by seeing VNV Nation live in concert a few weeks ago. Other than that it's been 90s alt rock and some instrumental stuff.
Albums on heavy rotation are: Dream Tiresias! by Project Pitchfork United States of Mind by Covenant Rocket Science by Apoptygma Berzerk Sky2 by Sky Wave of Mutilation (Best of) by The Pixies Unerotica by Rosetta Stone What Starts Ends by Rubicon Badmotorfinger by Soundgarden

Thanks, I'll take a gander. I noticed UNKLE coming up on my DJ Shadow station on Pandora, and I seem to remember liking some of 'em.

Listened to a little Fischerspooner "Odyssey" on the way to work today, along with some Black Grape. Black Grape, for those of you that haven't heard of them, are the band that Shaun Rider did after Happy Mondays. Pretty good stuff for getting ready to work on a Sunday.
Also, Sky- can you recommend any good Basie live albums? I have Live at the Sands with Sinatra and it is fucking awesome. Never been in to Basie much otherwise, but am looking to pick up some of his stuff.

I'm still pretty new to swing jazz, I have Finest Hour, which is a great album. I also have a multi-cd set (Combos Anthology) which features smaller groups than the full orchestra. I'd say start with Finest Hour.

Wow, i thought they were dead. They did release Virus in 2006(?) so it's not that long ago. The new album is pretty good, in any case!

I've been in a 70's funk kick. Ohio players, Commodores, Average White Band, Earth Wind and Fire, Sly and the Family Stone, Brick (love their old stuff), and a few others.
Other than that, the old standards: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and the Beatles with some Rush and Dream Theater for good measure.

Wave of Mutilation (Best of) by The Pixies
Pretty much all I've been listening to lately other than random crap on XM (Classic Vinyl and Alt Nation). I don't listen to a lot of music, only thing I've even bought lately are "best of"s from Primus and Massive Attack along with a Spoon and Tricky album. I got kind of bummed out when my CD collection was lost the last time I moved and I've been reluctant to rebuy any music.

Wow, i thought they were dead. Given Peter T's lifestyle and love of the bottle your statement hits awful close to home. The new album comes out in November but I got impatient. He also has a one man side project called Pain that also released an album this year. Has a duet with the new Nightwish singer (Anette) on it. Pain is a very good band as well. Check em out: Follow Me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRbv4O65vBo&yt Shut your mouth (pretty funny video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2gXMRoPv_M&feature=related

I am really liking the new AFI and Rancid albums (shock of shocks). Besides that, just going around with the usual standards of Motörhead, Slayer, Type O Negative, and Rush lately. Threw in some Tom Petty and Heart the other night just because I wanted to hear it. The car music player is running through the Iron Maiden catalog from Soundhouse Tapes up to Seventh Son where I am now.

Joe's a local kid. Used to see him play when he was knee high to a skunk (I think he was 11 or 12 the first time I saw him). He's scary good and a really nice guy.

Uh, what? Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of grave alcoholics in the metal scene, obviously, however I've never heard that Tägtgren would be one of them.

Does anyone else absolutely despise most "classic rock"? I despite whatever is on the "classic rock" channels on the radio as they like the same 25-30 songs over and over again. Luckily I don't listen to the radio anymore, so my hatred has calmed down substantially.

I can't remember ever listening to any of them on purpose. Especially Journey who are really Foreigner who are mostly Styx. All three of them make me want to lose my resolve to die of natural causes.
