I think I just quantified the difference between sentience and non-sentience. When something evolves to look scary and fuck-off, the non-sentient get scared and fuck off. The sentient have to wander over and pick it up and get all 'Dude!'.

That machete is totally badass!

And slingshots rock, I need to get one. Used to have one when I was a kid for rodent control, and there's a few squirrels and especially one squawky female crow just beggin' for it.
