On the subject of how good Mickery Rouke can be, anyone else seen "Angel Heart"? It's a slow burn story of PI hired to find a missing singer in the 1950 in New Orleans, but people start to die in nasty ways the closer he gets. It takes a huge twist at the end and you find out what you thought you were watching had a whole different angel to it. For those who care about nudity, Lisa Bonet got kicked off "The Cosby Show" for exposing her breasts in this movie... but I'd say that particular scene ends up a long way from sexy. According to IMDb, "Angel Heart" is being remade in 2011. Oh good. I really like this film for what it does. However, I know people who hate it for being 1) too slow and 2) too obvious (but maybe I'm slow on not working out the entire movie from the first 5 minutes).

One of my top 10 movies of all time. People who don't like this movie are idiots. That is all. [edit] OK, that is not all. Curious about the remake. Not that this is exactly original though. Basically another take on Faust/Robert Johnson/etc. The last scene is his greatest acting moment, I think. There's one scene like that in an old Lon Chaney Sr. movie... just utter devastation.. Chaney's is one of the most powerful things I've ever seen.. And Rourke lives up to him.

If you were born after 1985, you probably never heard of this one. Rent it.

I fucking hated this movie. HATED IT. Although it runs together with Serpent and the Rainbow for me, so maybe I hated that one more

Damn, Serpent and the Rainbow is cool too. I met the author, Andrew Davis, the other night at a movie premiere for the Grand Canyon Imax film he did with Kennedy. Cool guy.

Loved this film, watched it with no idea at all what it was gonna be like, took me completely by surprise. I remember watching it in a shared student flat on a crappy rented TV and crappy rented VCR surrounded by empty pizza boxes and general stoner student detritus and it was awesome.
I've found some articles from May-April 2008 saying it's coming to blu-ray but nothing since then. Will keep my eyes open.

Rourke mentioned on CBS Sunday Morning that this movie marked the time when his life truly spiralled out of control. This movie isn't terrible, but I'd take Diner over Angel Heart.

I don't see his turmoil reflected in it.. I mean, he still made a good role choice here. Afterwards though, you could definitely tell he didn't give a shit (i.e. Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man... which is still somehow some guilty pleasure for me though).
Strange what we can and can not see though. Apparently Johnny Depp, for example, hates talking about Gilbert Grape because that was one of the darker periods he was in.. But the movie is good.

I liked this movie a lot, especially Dinero's part. I think it suffered from the kerfluffle over Bonet showing her tits in this one (and what a stupid kerfluffle it was), but the movie was solid.
Remake? WHY WOULD YOU REMAKE THIS? There is nothing to add to the story. Just do a different Faustian story and be done with it. Fuck, I hate Hollywood sometimes.

Fucking awesome film. There is so much good about this, it hurts. I still remember watching this for the first time way back in 198x and watched it only again a couple of months ago and it definitely stands the test of time. I am horrified to hear about a remake.
I loved The Serpent and The Rainbow too - except for that one, leg-crossing, wince-inducing scene.

Yeah, paralyzed with a spider crawling on your face? I'd rather have a railroad spike nailed through my scrotum!

Yeah, paralyzed with a spider crawling on your face? I'd rather have a railroad spike nailed through my scrotum! Oh god - I'd forgotten about that scene as well. Being an arachnophobe I'd obviously shuttered that away in a place which could not be accessed. Thanks ever so much for unlocking it! ::shudder::
