Goat Simulator is pretty much 100% about the concept and being in the right place at the right time.

People care about Goat Simulator because it sounds wacky and fun at a time when wacky and fun sounding games are in vogue. That's really it.

It's pure Youtuber bait, for the Pewdiepies and Markipliers of the world. Funky, buggy, jokey game comes out, these WILD AND CRAZY Youtube personalities make a bunch of videos about how WILD AND CRAZY it is using grossly over-exaggerated reactions, and they make bank off of ad revenue.

Isn't it great, living in the era of Kickstarter and Early Access?
If we're going that route: Who here paid actual earth dollars for Minecraft?

Not sure what your point is? I paid real earth dollars for Minecraft beta. Got a working game that I liked just fine as it was at the time, and as a bonus it got even better.  Don't see how that relates to Kickstarter wherin devs seem to try to skip the whole hard part of coming up with a fun game FIRST, even if limited/unfinished, THEN ask for money, instead preferring to sell overpriced smoke and promises?

Yes, I know I'm paranoid, but am I paranoid enough?

In our household, we have paid for three copies of Minecraft.  Granted, we were late to the party, but the paltry price is pretty easily justified.

A donation with the string attached that they make it seem important so Bartle can parlay his non-relevance into a paycheck for another half-decade I presume.

Ooh, awesome, thanks for that.

That's a weird coincidence, though, going up just days after Motor Rock got pulled from Steam for copyright infringement of Rock N Roll Racing.

IGN has free keys to beta test the steampunk MMORPG Black Gold. This is from Snail soft, the Chinese company that made Age of Wulin/Wushu.

Not really free, unless you're already a Prime member with IGN.  Otherwise, it's $7.  At least it's telling me I need to subscribe to Prime.

I just got a PR Blast from 3D Realms about some bullshit called Bombshell. I'm sure it's being discussed on the SUPAR SEKRIT Hex forum, but for those of us who aren't on it:

Recent thread about backward-compat or console emulation (forgot which one) led me to bother with setting up Dolphin and booting a Xenoblade ISO.  I know it's trying but so far it looks worse than most PS2 games.  I'll fiddle with the visuals and see if I can make things look better, but some things can't be fixed.

Xenoblade was a good choice because the controller emulation is kinda complex in that there aren't really enough buttons on a standard controller.  However I was able to just set up the Classic section of the Wiimote config, since Xenoblade can be played solely with that unit.

And Plants vs Zombies is free, too.  I didn't have it!  Yay.  Two free games all at once!  Xbox is having three freebies in June, too, because it's like their 100th birthday or something.  I'm going to run out of xbox space, soon.  Time to edit.

So I just tried to buy Watch Dogs from Gamefly. They took my money, then said my purchase is "under review" and apparently I can't have my key until this mystery problem is resolved.

Is it just me or this incredibly shady? I'd understand not accepting the purchase, but taking money and then refusing to give the product?

edit: welp looks like they haven't charged it so I'll just cancel the whole thing. Which of course is not possible on their site.

I wonder how many lost sales they're suffering. I for one don't want start telling my personal info to a customer service rep calling from the US, just so I can get a video game that I can get from literally anywhere.

I guess the lesson is, even if Steam is more expensive, it's still the better choice.

PSN is running a flash sale on RPGs; Mass Effect trilogy is $15.  Hard to pass at that price.  ME3 DLC isn't included, so you'll have to shell out for the final 4 dlc, too.  But $15 base price is pretty stellar for 100-200 hours of game.

Any chance that you maroons have an in for a beta of the Firefly Online mobile game? I've got a friend who is not a huge gamer but a browncoat and way too excited about it. I'd like to snag a couple test slots to hopefully dash those hopes earlier than later.

So RPS really liked Distant Worlds: Universe. Anyone played it? I enjoy me some 4X, but don't have $50 to drop on a dud.

Haven't actually played Universe yet but bought the game and the first two expansions as they came out and it's a good game if a bit time consuming.
Is it actually worth $50 though, no I'd wait for the inevitable discount now that they're on Steam. At 50% off I'll probably pick this latest one up as well.
