WWE put on a large show in Saudi Arabia last week (minus the women wrestlers, of course ) called the Greatest Royal Rumble Ever. They had 50 guys run down to the ring every 90 seconds but one person had a bit of a problem with that. Titus O'Neil, who is part of a team for his gimmick called Titus Worldwide, slipped, fell and slid underneath the ring on his way down. They replayed it about 5 times just to make sure everyone saw it and the announcers had a hard time controlling themselves because they were laughing so hard. So now #TitusWorldslide is trending on Twitter and other forms of social media hot garbage. https://media.giphy.com/media/2YeheNa7pHNTSPH60A/giphy.gifhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnvCp8bwCK0

The way it's phrased it sounds like she both a) "Never saw a dog" and b) "Never smiled." Pretty grim.

Lol, ok, I see it now, thanks. My brain was refusing to read it any other way than the one they intended no matter how hard I tried, for some reason.

What Azuredream said. For it to mean what they are trying to convey, it should be "... who never saw a dog without smiling". What they have written means: She saw no dogs in her life. And she did not smile. Edit: For some reason I did not have your second reply when I posted this.

It bugs me because the grammatical fuck up is obvious now, but I honestly couldn't see it no matter how many times I read that. I'm going to chalk it up to spending years abroad supervising non-english speakers. My English is slowly degrading as I start talking back to people in broken English so they understand me better.

Its not a grammatical fuckup its just imprecise syntax
Who never saw a dog and didn't smile. Is a perfectly fine sentence grammatically. Moreover the problem you're all having is that you're having is that you embrace shitty syntactical standards.
As an example consider the following, and ask which is correct:
He asked, "Which way to the store"?
Or
He asked, "Which way to the store?".
If you chose the first; you, and the ELA are fucking wrong stupid heathens who have never thought a second about the meaning of sentences in your miserable worthless lives.
Specifically with regards to this issue; you're all reading
"Who never saw a dog and didn't smile" as "Who never saw a dog, and didn't smile".
There is no comma and therefore its the same construction.

Both of those mean the same thing. One has an optional Oxford comma. Am I agreeing with you?

Both of those mean the same thing. One has an optional Oxford comma. Am I agreeing with you? those mean different things. One has a clarifying comma that should be placed as a matter of course because people cannot infer cadence from ambiguous sentences without proper punctuation. The clarifying comma changes the meaning of the sentence by separating the phrase singular phrase “saw a dog and didn’t smile” into two phrases “saw a dog” and “didn’t smile”. Hence the “never” in the first instance operates on the phrase “saw a dog and didn’t smile” as a whole. What didn’t she do? “See a dog and not smile”. While it operates on both “saw a dog” and “didn’t smile” in the second.

The phrasing is stupid, that's all. If your meaning can be interpreted differently from your intent, you fucked up the communication in the first place. Be deliberate.

They were deliberate. You all are interpreting it in a way that would be written differently if it were intended to have a different meaning.

Yeah you're right (it would need a third thing), but I've decided I don't want to participate in this argument because I'm obviously not giving it my full self and I'm right anyway. I'm Tale and you may remember me from posting funny fucking pictures in the fucking funny pictures thread instead of taking up space with text posts.

i think you're all wrong and the phrasing is nowhere as bad as the word choice anyway it just says whenever she saw a dog she smiled this isn't compliated, it's just shit also it's not funny at all so I'm Tale and you may remember me from posting funny fucking pictures in the fucking funny pictures thread instead of taking up space with text posts. that's just an outright lie
