Digital Single Lens Reflex. A single lens reflex camera is one in which a movable mirror allows the photographer to look through the lens so that what they see in the viewfinder matches what they're taking a picture of. Largely as a result of the market they are aimed at and the fact that a fairly large prism and mirror housing is needed, these cameras also tend to have much larger sensors, fast mechanical shutters and interchangeable lenses.

That's a nice picture, it fills me with an urge to run leaping up those boulders.

Apoc: the sheen of the fabric and her hair in the second pic is great, wonderful lighting (said as a totaly layman!). Signe's pics are probably just her blowing weed smoke at her cats  why so serious?

I'd relate a story about how I did indeed break my pelvis when I was younger, but I don't want to bore you with stories of when I was a paramilitary covert agent in Paraguay.

I guess that giant TV does make things seem pretty real.

The joys of home ownership!  New 2" ABS drain line from the washing machine / laundry sink to the sewer main will ensure that doing laundry will no longer have the side-effect of watering the garage floor.

Figures that the first thing to have problems would be something that requires jackhammers to fix.

Blue Angels are great. I grew up near an AFB, so I got to lay out in the yard and watch them. For two years we lived literally right across the fence from the base. I wish they'd fly a cargo plane or bomber, though. Those fuckers are scary when they're doing test flights on the floor.

They do a decent little show with Fat Albert, the C130 cargo plane that carries the support crew/parts/whatever whereever they go.  Rocket Assisted Vertical Takeoff, several flyby's of various type, then finally ending with a the short landing cycle wherein the pilot throws the engines (props?) into full reverse immediatedly on touchdown for landing on extremely short landing strips.  I've got some good pics of Fat Albert at home I'll toss up later.

I don't think you can put a turbo-prop in reverse or use standard jet thrust reversers.  Might be able to turn variable-pitch propeller blades so far they produced reverse thrust, but I can't seem to find out if the Hercules has that capability.

I think they're variable pitch.  Which is still kinda cool in its own right.

It's called 'beta'. The engine continues turning the same way, but you turn the prop around (by adjusting the pitch of the blades 180*), which then produces reverse thrust. Most sea planes have this and most turbo-props can do this.
