No we're not.

Just cause a person died on the series or in the movies does not mean they had to be wearing a red shirt.

Trippy and luckton are both missing the other connotation of "red shirt".   Ohhhhh, I see.

No, I get that, but based on the formatting and grammar used by Stewie, I assumed he legitimately did not know that in classic ToS, yellow and red roles were reversed.

I agree, doing uniform colors based on crew roles makes more sense.  But to many people "red shirt" in the context of Star Trek means "the guy who dies".  I saw what he was trying to do there.

No, I was trying to unpick Samwise's comment, that's all.

I didn't watch Firefly, I have seen most of TOS though.

yeah, I was just referring to this classic trope http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redshirt_(character)

I realize that red shirts were specific to security and engineering. I didn't realize that people would get all uppity though.

Appearence: It's like appearance but spelt wrong.

Also not getting the love for Firefly but then I think that Joss Whedon is way over-rated anyway.

Because it was a well done, cute little show?  I don't particularly care who is responsible for a series if it is enjoyable.

I liked it enough to wonder where he was going with it, which is more than I can say for every other Joss Whedon show.

I watched the first episode of Firefly, thought "WTF is this?" then went back to watching sports.

Then again, I got suckered into LOST.

The actual first episode, or the the third episode that Fox aired first?

I always felt it came out about two years too early. I didn't really even know it existed until after it was cancelled. The second season of Angel piqued my interest in what this Whedon guy was doing, went back and watched Buffy, and discovered I'd missed Firefly entirely :(

Even worse, I remember seeing a few seconds of it when flipping through channels, but not staying because the only actor I saw was Gina Torres, who I still associated with such awesomeness as Cleopatra 2525.

I get that not everyone digs Whedon's style - but Firefly really was just a cute little show with some really engaging characters. It deserved more than it got.

They were released in the wrong order, it helps if you've reorganized them.

Personally, I found the chicks cute, the guys quirky, the humour awesome, and I actually started to care a bit about the series when it was just cut short. Oh well, can't win them all.

The very first bit of Firefly I ever saw was http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=0W_3ZHLBOn4#t=134s (wonder if the time stamp link works, if not 2:14) from that exact point and I fell in love right there and then.

Since this entire page has become a derail I'll add to this.

The first episode they aired on TV is not only out of order skipping all of the character introductions, it's also one of the weakest episodes of the entire series (aside from a few really good one-liners).  If you only watched the "first" episode when it aired and never watched it again you really should give it another chance.

Why people don't leave Finland despite it being dark and inhospitable place to live.

I enjoyed it actually, more insightful than funny.

Pretty much this. By the time I'd heard about it and debated watching it, it was already canned and I didn't see the point in watching a show that doesn't end well. (Of course, I did do this knowingly with Deadwood...)

Ahahah I just lifted it off another forum. There's a bunch of european posters there and they were poking fun on Finland. I'm not familiar with their culture, so I asked 'Whats wrong with Finland?' and got that comic as a result.

Finland is supposedly the cold, dark permafrost land where people have an affinity for racing, drinking, saunas and suicides.

Well, the winters are dark and cold that far north, I never realized that was something typically Finnish. I thought that was all of Northern Scandinavia. The more you learn...

I also presume they all have their share of blonde women to keep you warm during those winters. Here are the Finish Eurovision Song Contest contestant for Finland 2012  awesome, for real

Well, if u look at the last panel, Finland-ball sighed with pride. He questioned himself at first, why can't he enjoy life like Brazilian Ball (Hahahehueueueu), sunbathe like Italy, or have fun like Portugal and Germany in a warmer climate.

Then the answer came from everywhere. His ancestors, grandparents, family, and stuff. The conflict with Russia (Karellia), druidic ancestors (partly true, according to a Finnish poster), proud to serve in their army (WW2 mountain snipers), and their neighbors, Sweden.

Wiki it all up at work:
Quote
Battle of Narva
The lengthy German defence during the Battle of Narva denied the Soviets the use of Estonia as a favorable base for amphibious invasions and air attacks against Helsinki and other Finnish cities. Stavka's hopes of assaulting Finland from Estonia and forcing it into capitulation were diminished. Finnish Chief of Defence Carl Gustav Emil Mannerheim repeatedly reminded the German side that in the event their troops in Estonia retreated, Finland would be forced to make peace even on extremely unfavourable terms. Thus, the prolonged Battle of Narva helped Finland avoid a Soviet occupation, sustained its capacity for resistance and enabled them to enter negotiations for the Moscow Armistice on their own terms

He was proud of all that hence he sighed with a smile.

That's Spain. There certainly is no fun to be had and only a marginally warmer climate in Germany.
