I'm voting for you to become the Official Honeycrisp Supplier of f13.
He has to work on converting me. I had one from a supermarket and it was pretty damn bland. Obviously that's hardly the best example of them I know.

I thought it was just me that had that reaction. I wondered if it was because I got it at the supermarket or what, but I still much prefer Granny Smith apples the best.

I embrace the unbelievers. Honeycrisp are over-rated, awful things. LEAVE THEM ALONE. Living in the middle of a heavy apple area has its perks, though there aren't as many orchards as there used to be in the local area. And honeycrisp is perfect for this climate, very cold-hearty. Spoilering apple talk for people who don't care, so as not to fill up the photo thread with delicious awesomeness :)

I tried some from my grocery store a couple times and while they were pretty good, I still prefer galas. The honeycrisps didn't have the delicious hint of tartness that galas do, and their texture was a bit more watery. Still delicious though, and I could see a really good batch turning me into a believer.

Way out of season and most orchards aren't growing as many as the more popular varieties. Look for them in late September through October for prime freshness. I haven't seen one since January, our local produce guy got in a couple bushels from somewhere, but even he had been out since the beginning of December. It was a short season last year and they sold out very quickly. But they should be pretty well available in October/November. I can't wait for the picture of the deer trapped inside the fence with Sky's honeycrisp tree. Quiet, you! Also, If that doesn't work, I plan on eating a lot of venison.

Was up in PA over the weekend and saw this fantastic sunset over the lake. Had to try to rig my camera for a long exposure shot and was cursing the lack of a tripod and my own skills.

It's a nice shot. Certainly much better than any sunset/ rise I've managed to do. I've got to ask about the pixellation, though. Are you taking straight jpg or was it a smaller shot you blew up?

It was shot plenty large in RAW - I think I'm just bumping against either a D40x limitation or fucking up with Photoshop Elements. Or a bit of both.

Do you mean the noise in the darker tones? I was going to say that's just high ISO noise but the EXIF says ISO 100 so I'm not sure where that's come from. Nice shot though :)

Posterization! That's the word I was looking for!
Like the pics, Moses. I've never been able to get such great results indoors without a flash, nice lens.

I think that might be a combination of noise, playing with levels and jpeg compression. Actually I'm pretty sure that's posterization. Check your RAW file, I think it might look a fair bit different.
It does, because even with a 30 second exposure, it's still underexposed. There seems to be some tricks that may help with posterization though, so I'll give it another stab this evening and see if I can't clean it up some more from the original. And great indoor shots. I'm with Merusk - indoor lighting always kills me.

A few shots a took when I spent a few days on Vancouver Island in May. Horseshoe Bay ferry, on the way up: My sister's Rottie/Pitbull Harley - poor breed(s) get such a bad rep, this guy is a big cuddly baby: Someone I just about stepped on while climbing back up from a river bank:

Looking at it now, I may have overcooked that seagull shot a bit. Was a very washed out shot because of the bright sun, so I think I over compensated. Second shot is almost entirely as shot - love that perfect time just before sunset.

I love the Seagull shot. Maybe it's a preference thing, but I tend to like slightly higher contrast images.

I like the ducklings, are they wood ducks? Nice shots Bunk, I generally like bright shots so the seagull works for me. Only the shadow on the gull appears to be a bit jarring. Old men can get away with wearing glasses at our kempo gradings, if you want to know why I can write an essay and explain

Mallards, I think. There were several kinds of ducks in that part of the creek, but the mallards seemed to be the parents who were sticking close to the ducklings.

OK, I'll be humble and post this here instead of in the Awesome Pictures thread, even though I think it is. My wife says she thinks she can see Whoville in there.
Assuming I figure out how to post pictures that is.

Why so pixelated?
Cellphone camera (HTC Incredible) That said, I still dig it. :D Exactly. Once I shrink it to half original size, and do some basic post-processing on it, I think it really will be awesome. But for what it is now, as is straight from a phone, it's not too bad at all. My biggest beef with it is the colors are a bit washed out. I like my colors saturated while preserving high contrast. I figured out how to get that with my Olympus DC2010(?) by fiddling with exposure times and ASA settings, but haven't been able to find any way to get that level of control of the phone camera. I like the pictures I can take with the Olympus far better, but one thing I've learned over the years is that the best camera for taking those serendipitous shots is not the one with the best technical specifications and capabilities, but the one that you actually have with you when serendipity strikes!

That's half the reason I want a smart phone. Never have a camera when you need one (and my LG tracfone is probably 1MP). Unfortunately the Triumph is 5MP...which is still 1MP more than my Canon p&s.
