The diving shots were awesome, though it made me feel bad for getting excited at 10m vis last weekend. No shots of the actual dive but here are some people getting ready to go in. (This was the sunday, the weather on saturday was too horrible to want to be outside. And we were camping ) That has to be on the west coast of Scotland, no? Actually no, West coast but Wales instead. Angelsea to be precise.

Heh sorry, maybe that comment belongs in the photography thread. A polariser is just like the thing you have in your sunglasses that partially blocks light (mainly reflected). It can make a huge difference to your photos, especially if you're doing wide-wide landscapes (with the sky) or taking photos of objects in harsh sunlight (like mid-day light). It also particularly effects photos of water.

Although I think that total precision would involve me being insufferably pedantic and calling it "Anglesey". Let's all give thanks I'm not that petty or nit-picking. Oh wai...

The Albert Memorial and the Royal Albert Hall in the background. Located in and around Hyde Park, in South Kensington, London. This is too fun. View from my balcony on a surprisingly nice day in London:

That's awesome, how do you take pictures that size? Also this is definitely the time to be in London, we're having some truly glorious weather currently. Sky: Dragonflies are awesome.

And I just left London, for an even hotter place. With 100% humidity at times . I used a tripod with a 3-way pan head to take overlapping photos in one plane. Then 'I' stitched them together using photoshop (i.e. PS did everything). I've got a couple of attempts at panoramas which aren't just in one plane which will hopefully turn out well and I'll post one of them here. That way I can get huge resolutions with my piddly 6MP camera!

Ah ok, I was impressed how everything seemed to line up perfectly, even clouds which you'd expect to be moving.

The top 60% or so (i.e. all the sky) is all taken from one photo, the bottom 40% or so (just above where the people on the path are) is another photo, so two photos! So that's why the sky is perfect in that photo. However... 14 photo panorama, original file = 180MP. I think it's cos photoshop does such a good job auto-arranging and blending the photos that you don't see anything off. The clouds were definitely moving, it's a 360 degree panorama and I have photos of the start and the beginning and the sky's diffo. I did take these shots pretty quickly though .

Very nicely done. Does your tripod have some gauge that lets you adjust around in equal increments, or do you just guestimate using the view through the lens?

Thanks K9. Usually I just look and try to get an overlap ~30% of the picture, which seems like enough for PS to do it's magic. I have a 'decent' tripod head. It's one of the cheapest heads from a professional level brand, Manfrotto. So it does come with angle demarkations. A lot of cheap plasticky tripods don't. Using that I tried doing a 2x6 panorama: (I had excessive overlap though and could've done it with around 2x3 shots) Looks practically imperceptible from a single shot to me . It is a pain in the arse to try and take photos by this method though.

Is that one of those views that city people cherish for the one redeeming feature that helps you ignore all the rest of the shitty view?
I love real estate shows with an 'ocean view' which can be seen out the bathroom window, between two buildings, at just the right angle.

It's the first thing I see when I look to the right of my monitor. The rest of the view is ok. The only real downer is the roof of the bank, which has AC units on it. But, other than that, Toronto is a very diverse city when it comes to architecture. Having so many modern buildings mixed in with old ones makes for a very nice contrast. Our building is actually fairly old with giant wood beams and wooden floors.

I'm not into giant shitty rectangles. Out my window there are trees, hedges, grass, if I turn around I can see a slice of a couple houses. I'm not a city person. But eh. Put up a couple more posters and boxes and you won't notice :P
