Had a wicked fog last week, this is the park by my house. That bridge is great for sunsets after dinner.

Snowed a couple of weeks ago, huge snowstorm. Surprise none of the Brits here posted photos first.

Was gnashing my teeth at my inability to get outside and take pics of it! We better not have to wait another 20 years for awesome snow like that  awesome, for real

I was just remarking last night that I could see the lights of a car in one of the houses down the road, but not the car itself. This winter has been so wicked, six foot banks all down my dead-end street, and parking lots are beginning to look like the Alps.  Heart my snowblower!

Not exactly up to Rodin's standard, are they? As well as being littered with heaps of the stuff all year round, Prague also has a big sculpture festival, I believe.

This last weekend I hiked up to Hill 88, a peak in the Marin Headlands I'd never been to before, and found an old Nike radar site (probably decommissioned in the 70s).  It had some well-executed graffiti that I wanted to preserve:

Around the walls of one of the rooms, just under the ceiling, was written "A TRUE ARTIST HELPS THE WORLD BY REVEALING AESTHETIC TRUTH".

Is f32 the f-stop? I'm still getting the hang of the settings on my Nikon D40 DSLR, but since I shoot mostly food the f-stop is important (food porn macros ftw).

More pictures from that same walk.  Next time I go up to that hill I'll get more pictures of the ruins; it was pretty cool up there.

Here's the view from Battery Townsley, which was set up during WWII to lob 1-ton shells at hypothetical attacking Japanese battleships.  The spot where the gun used to go holds water nicely, and the newts seem to like it:

Here's a nice view (I really liked the big chunks of serpentine rock in the foreground):

and a panorama from further up the hill:

Crappy phone pic:

This fella was on the white ledge behind the railing when I noticed him.  The ramp to the left is a bridge over an open air courtyard in the basement of the building and his only way to nearby trees.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

Yes, and the scale is a ratio to the focal length. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture, the greater the depth of field.

Just stick the dial on P, white balance it, and stick it on a tripod.  Then punch up the saturation to make it look yummy.

What Righ said  awesome, for real

Plus, the larger the number (smaller the aperture) the less light gets through obviously, so you need to increase shutter speed, ISO or amount of light to compensate.

Complicating things a *teeny* bit, stopping right down like I did in that photo, even with a nice macro lens, tends to reduce image quality slightly. Best image quality for most lenses will be in the middle range of apertures, usually around f8 or so. But really, that's a minor consideration most of the time.

This daft blackbird spent an hour attacking his own reflection in a mirror in our garden yesterday. The only thing that finally made him give up was when the cats noticed him and went on high alert garden patrol. Not seen him today so I reckon he might be concussed  swamp poop

I actually do have a small muskrat skull (looks baby beaver-ish) but I would never waste perfectly good coffee beans by nestling dusty old skulls on them.

This picture has grown on me, mainly due to the excellent posing.  Iron Man force choking the Cobra grunt is awesome.  So is Wolverine clawing apart another one.

Ha, what is weird is I have to plan the poses out in my head, then quickly execute them so I don't get in trouble. No one ever sees me posing the figures haha. I have always liked catching little scenes like this and I like that the new marvel figures are gi joe scale.

On another note, that guy getting punched by Spider Man...That dude has a WTF face. He got fucking rocked. The Captain America/Cobra Commander face off in the back is epic. I just love the concept.
