As far as I'm concerned, if they're showing any signs of advanced intelligence, it's imperative that we eat them now before we become their slaves, food, and/or pets.

It seems like it would make it hard to post in the proper forum. They must overlap a lot.

You can never have enough secret forums.  Most of them are probably just "we should do X" "nah" type posts from years gone back...

So I've mentioned it a few times, but basically I've spent the last month or so with a buddy of mine converting what had been a spare bedroom into a nursery.   The original plan was to liquid nail some beadboard up on the wall, paint some chair and picture rail and paint the walls.  Shouldn't take more than 2 days or so.

That was before we discovered that glue only wouldn't hold, the failure to actually level a corner of the room, and all the other fun things that can happen.    On the upside, I've got a nailgun now and I know how to use it.   Also, baby furniture is ridiculously expensive.  Thank god for Craigslist.

It's sorta minty.   Grin   We wanted to do something bit more playful/childlike for the nursery as opposed to the rest of the house which trends towards darker, more subdued tones.  We just weren't expecting it to go on fluorescent and darken to non glowing.  After the initial shock, we've gotten pretty used to it and it tends to match the various greens you find in baby gear so everything matches fairly well.

Welcome to my world. "Oh, I'll just rip out this panelling and put up some drywall." Luckily, I watched a lot of This Old House when I was a kid, and things are nearing a close. When I finally get it painted up and finished, I plan on posting some photos of the various stages. It started out so hideous, fire engine red faux brick on black (and teh red had been girly pink before that!).

How did Oban get into Signe's house?

Wouldn't all that glue offgas and hurt the baby? You dodged a bullet. Nails >> chemicals.

If you're worried about this, don't buy a new house, EVER.

JW - Yeah glue alone wouldn't work, needs nails or tacks to hold it in place until things set-up.  Unless you feel like holding the panel there yourselves for a few hours   awesome, for real

Sky - We all tried to warn you!  WE WARNED YOU MAN!!  Home renovation is the devil.  You gotten around to doing the Crown Mould yet?

Rattran - They dodged a bullet there.  Man, I can just envision that tree falling into the house rather than along side it.  They should get an arborist to look at the other half that's left.  I imagine it's as rotten at the base or is going to be unable to support itself much longer, so it'd probably be best to just hack it out when they remove the one that fell.

Hell, I'd have had it removed long ago anyway.  That root system has to be fucking with their basement.

The wind was out of the south, so the tree fell due north. Usually when we get high-wind storms, it's from the west, so it would have fallen on the house.
A roof blew off a house up the road, but I couldn't get any good pics of it, the rain started again.

Actually, I like the challenge. That said, I've decided I can live a while without trim :) I've got some nice original crown moulding that I saved, nice shape that fits the Mission/Arts & Crafts thing I'm shooting for and a beeee-youtiful old stain that's at least 30 years old. But now I have to match it up with the old walls, the new walls are about a half-inch thicker...so yeah. Interesting stuff.

Also, putting in new electrical boxes, when the old ones are concreted in on the exterior wall, actually they go into the block wall, so I need to extend them because I can't really replace them. And the work I did to bulk out the door jamb the filled in for furring at the end of a wall, but was 1/8" back from the rest of the furring. And no 16" o.c. here! It's 16" and 13" and 15" and 14" and 21". If I ever have to work on new construction it'll be a breeze!

Got a new kitteh in the house, six week old male named Odin. He is supercute and funny as hell. He also loves to attack my feet and pull my two older cats tails. They are not to happy with that, but have accepted him. Funny thing is the oldest cat was hissing the first days and seemed a little jealous, but yesterday he brought a dead bird (!) as a trophy, had to give him lots of love, he is back to his normal now.

Together with the new cat, I bought a new toy for my shelf (Yes, very messy shelf at the moment)

He looks just like a baby version of our little imbecile Desmond.  Hopefully he was weened fully so he doesn't wind up an 18lb 7 year old baby.
