Trying for some more painterly shots of autumn scenes.

You nailed the painterly thing, I'd say.  Absolutely beautiful photo, sir.

That's lovely, indeed very painterly.

Went to Disney for the week. Was about ready to run out and buy a new camera and be all like I LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY and time to buy a new camera.  Then I started the painful process of going through 500+ shots and  headache

That said, I'm liking the mix of using Raw Therapee + DigiKam right now.

I _really_ wish I had a second day, or a full day without the kids at the Animal Kingdom. There's a lot going on there and it all makes for some beautiful scenery that I really wanted another go at.

Nope! My daughter was with me on the trip, but those were just two kids who happened to be in the sun as I shot. Worked out pretty well.

Unless you mean the second shot--in which case my fam would have to be one of those Hills Have Eyes kinds of families...

We did the B&O Museum for my son's birthday, so I got a chance to wander around the Backyard Collection a bit.

I wouldn't consider myself 'into' trains, but it's amazing to see that stuff in person.  Just huge machinery in general.

Don't have a picture - but taking a tour of the printing museum in Houston is awesome too.  They fire up the old presses and show you how everything works.

Nice pics, though JJ Abrams might ding you for copyright violation on the first one.

I really need to replace the damn lens hood on that bit of glass. I tried shielding it with my hand which worked about as well you you'd expect (not at all).

Hopefully I'll get active in this thread this year. Assuming I can figure out this crazy camera and lightroom and my fiancee doesn't kill me. Or my cat doesn't kill me.

They 'pop' when they shatter, but that one landed in some not-quite-froxen pine straw.

Not mine, but a friend's taken a few nights ago (I was too much of a wuss to stand out in the cold for four hours). I thought it was pretty cool considering the relatively cheap equipment he's using:
Celestron CG-4 motorized GEM Canon Rebel T4i with Sigma 70-200 at 200mm

According to some Reddit bot, the image contains: NGC 3077, M 82, NGC 3034, M 81, Bode's nebulae, NGC 3031

That brighter dot in the upper third of the smudge to the left is the SN2014J Supernova, which is what he had set out to capture.

couldn't think of where else to put it.. not a funny picture and certainly not awesome... but I did discover this gem in a box in my garage:

Took some Father/Daughter portraits for a friend. This one came up as we were just messing around. Best part, neither new what the other was about to do. This also just happened to be the first shot I looked at after downloading the set.

I'm not the dad, he's just a good friend, but thanks.

She lives in another province, so he doesn't have a whole lot of control over those things, but he's pretty cool about it. We all had a discussion about her upcoming nose ring plans during the shoot.
Before they came over I was talking with him on the phone and he asked "Do you have a backdrop that won't clash with blue?"

I showed her this shot just after I took it, her response was "I look like Grumpy Cat"

Love the shot, reminds me of me and my daughter.  That'd be the one I hung up in the house.

Yes she does.  I will try and get a photo of it this weekend, but my daughter does the same thing.

Fun. The people whose portrait work I like best seem to be really great at talking their subjects into either great "performances" or into being themselves--lighting and camera technique are only a small part of it.
