I only started playing since Bestiary League, but I'm playing a ton now. I getting a little more versed on passive builds and gem interactions and stuff - playing an Ice/DOT Occultist of my own design because I wanted to try out the new Occultist buffs to ice (yummy Void Beacon). Not sure if it's meta but it's a fun. Vortex, Cold Snap, Freezing Pulse, Arctic Breath. She seems way more tanky than my Toxic Rain Ranger with all the ES and regen.

No, but I can manage something. It's just like any other minion build except i'm shield charging into the thick of things and hitting Lancing Steel. My gear is baaaad, but I have the 3rd best weapon I think. The only better one would be a high phys dps sword with crit and the new impale crafted mod or maybe that new unique that does double damage. I'm working on a new idea with a Animate Guardian. I also originally set it up to use cast on crit summon skeleton, but I've been using animate weapon the last few days. Not sure which is better to be honest. I'm also considering glacial cascade as well. I'm also considering a nice craftwed sword with the new crafted poets pen proc and use that to get skeletons out. But I need an elder sword to start with and my maps sucks right now and I am tetering on T3/4. Dread Banner is great I think.

Gonna share what I've been playing, just because I love showing off how wrong my builds are: http://poe-profile.info/build/b41439057fb2138f2835e60a6f79f4bfAs a rule of thumb, I always tend to just wing it rather than follow builds. Basically, it's Caustic Arrow linked with Cast on Crit Essence Drain, supported by Wither Totem and Assassins Mark Blasphemy. Will get interesting when my next Ascendancy adds a second ongoing source of Wither.

So far the only thing I've died to at all is Betrayal Bosses that I stupidly over ranked and chained together, so it seems to work. Having three or four simultaneous Chaos dots on things is pretty funny. I'm suspecting a big jump in durability when I hit that +60% Chaos Res for Occultist.

Caustic arrow can get you far doing nothing else. Try toxic rain or scourge arrow.

I don't get your support gem choices. Is decay actually more effective than swift affliction or void manipulation?

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation. -William Gibson

I've looked at it and can't decide. Void Manipulation takes my DoT from 3200 to 4200, but in comparison Decay is doing 1650 extra DPS and lasts 10 seconds. Decay get's quite high when you have this many Chaos damage increases/mores. Swift Affliction takes my DoT from 3200 to 4300, but reduces the duration on the CA Acid Puddles by 30%. I rely a lot on additional mobs running in to those lingering puddles and dying.
In either case the added direct damage to the arrows is irrelevant.
Overall, it seems like Void Manipulation would be better overall for mob clearing, but the build was really setup to deal with bosses. The timing on my average crits fires off an Essence Drain every few seconds, lining up with its duration. With that plus the decay, I've got three active DoTs on a Boss that can run while I'm running away.
One detail I am unclear on - since I have decay being applied by two different sources: CA and ED, can I end up with two instances of decay active on a target?

Sometimes it's fun to try something completely off the wall. I'm currently running a Scion using Goddess Scorned with frost blades to set things on fire.
Crazy drops can make crazy fun builds.

The wife ran a completely mental one with Dancing Dervish and the wee scorpion guy. She loved that despite my disdain.

If things aren't dead in less than 2 secs (not bosses) your build is wrong.
Decay sucks and doesn't scale.

Updated my build. Crit and crit multi gems. No animated guardian and leveling up Spectre to get a high chieftain specture for their power charge aura.
Testing now.

I've never really been a fan of running around while other stuff does the damage. Passive totem and minion builds always end up boring me. They're fun to play for a short time though (for me).

Yeah, I get that. Trouble is, high level builds all mostly revolve around passive 'running around and watching everything die'. The epitome of that are the righteous fire builds; always fun just to watch people just running around maps while everything blows up.
I have a couple of nice high level totem builds and I can understand why people wouldn't like them, but for me it's six and half a dozen.

Well, my weirdo build is level 80 and I still can bust out of T3 maps, I can' sustain T4+.
I'll have more time to play soon and get the spectre gem leveled. Thing I like about Lancing Steel is that I'm actively shooting something. I just wish chain and gmp destroy my dps.

Looks good. Not having the patience to do so myself, I think one day I'll take advantage of their new system to import somebody else's hideout. Although, I think right now they don't have the functionality to tell you what you are missing decoration-wise when you import a hideout, so you need to make sure you have all of it prepurchased. I think they are working on adding that functionality though.

If you go on the official forums on the hideout section, someone made a tool to tell you exactly that.

Got tired of getting exploded on the frost build, so trying a RF marauder. Never did one before, it's very odd, but relaxing.
Except that Boss Kills with RF don't seem to count half the time. That's annoying.

Started a new character, storm brand occultist. Going for a chaos conversion build. It's been fun, running an energy shield build which I haven't done in ages.

Still leveling the Occultist Vortex / Cold Snap and I can say that focusing more on my resists (was advised to hit at least 75%) has made a huge difference. It pains me to take a passive that is primarily "+8% to all resists" but it has started to make a difference cumulatively.

Survivability is paramount in PoE. Resists, life, energy shield, armor, whatever ; you have to prioritise that shit first.
Someone told me that when I first started playing and I dismissed it as bullshit, but it's truly, truly important.

Zombie Witch was my first character, and I couldn't even clear Act 3 Normal back when I first tried the game years and years ago. Of course, part of that was fault in the game's design because a lot of required skill and support gems were drop-only, before they got moved to vendors.
There is a solid newbie zombies build that actually works pretty well, and the only things it needs are two absolutely dirt-cheap uniques. And I mean dirt cheap, like sub-1c cheap.

Zombies won't keep target. If you move, they disengage. They're AWFUL.

You can get all your resists from gear and then respec that node. My main is a 93 Occultist running Vaal Cold Snap with 100% uptime and Vortex for tougher enemies. I'm able to obliterate all content just by Shield Charging around the zone. If you have any questions let me know!
