Nice picture! The harbor area is really beautiful. Walked all over those islands seen below (bunch of old abandoned forts and other stuff), and the view is wonderful.
The US has a super nice embassy there as well....

The "old fort" is Suomenlinna, a World Heritage Site. Amazing place.
You can just barely see the Cathedral in the lower right corner, with the huge plaza.

I'm well aware, it's the reason I paid for a boat to take me out there. I'm just typing on my phone, and didn't feel like googling how to spell it's unpronounceable name. But yeah, I liked Helsinki. Not a whole lot to see there as a tourist (when compared to many of the surrounding countries), but it seemed like a really nice, livable city (many great tourist cities would be hell to live in, by contrast). I really wanted to go back and check out Lapland in winter, but ran out of time.

I have only been there in the spring (twice now). I hear that in the summer, it's empty because everyone goes to their cabins, and in the winter it's miserable.

There have been a few attempts to domesticate moose but overall they are just a bit to ornery and way to able to kick 360 degrees around them which makes the initial taming process really really dangerous.

They are not herd animals either, which makes the whole taming thing even harder.

For those, like me, who didn't know Jeff Minter: Jeff "Yak" Minter (born in 22 April 1962 in Reading)[1] is an independent English video game designer and programmer. He is the founder of software house Llamasoft and has created dozens of games during his career. Minter's games are often arcade style shoot 'em ups which contain titular or in-game references demonstrating his fondness of ruminants (llamas, sheep, camels, etc.). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Minter

Spring is comingThe first sunrise - in 4 months - for Concordia Station in the Antarctia. During winter (May to August) the Sun doesn't go above the horizont , temperatures are in the low -80ies° C (-112° F). The station is at height of 3200 meters, and has a holdout crew of 13 during the dark times. And, because it's a pretty awesome picture in itself, and to give some context, here is the station:

Ok, one more: Two men and a dog escape a fire in Greece I think it's the dog that pushes the pic into noteworthy territory.

that is scary. I drove through the remains of a forest fire several years ago, after the flames had died down and it was (relatively?) safe. Entirely by accident, by the way. I was driving across several states, had no clue there even was a fire, tooling along through the mountains in the middle of nowhere along the Kentucky/Virginia border late at night, no traffic at all, rounded the shoulder of a mountain and suddenly I was in Hell. Glowing embers and black burnt tree trunks on either side of the road, smoke wafting around like fog combined with the glowing embers plus emergency vehicle lights made everything fairly well lit even though near midnight. There were no warnings that I saw, nobody directing traffic or anything, just a couple miles of empty hellscape with several vehicles and a couple dozen people working on a hot spot at one end. Possibly the most surreal experience I've ever had.

Driving through an area with forest fires is indeed surreal. I did it this past April when going to Florida. Went through the Gatlingburg area and you could see the forests on fire less than two or three miles from the highway. A hillside was on fire in such a straight line it looked staged.. maybe it was a controlled burn, but still. Smoke everywhere and since I was going through at night of course some idiots put on their high-beams. There were also a few small brush fires just burning their little bonfires right off the shoulder.
Quite a 'woah' moment and nowhere near dangerous but frightening enough that you can imagine the terror of a true out-of-control blaze.

I imagine it is closer to the 19th century version of thong panties. Pretty sure they were still wearing "underwear", they were just wearing really, really skimpy underwear by the standards of the time.

But in the subjective opinion of the scandalized they were basically "naked' under there.
