The shitty version of the PS3 with the 20gig hard drive just dropped $100 (depending on what source you read, some said 75, some said like ~80, others said 100) and had HDMI added, so the big huff and puff about the systems is gone. You'll be able to drop $400-450 at PS3 launch and get a PS3 with HDMI (just with a small hard drive, woopty fucking doo).

Basically, I've no excuse on avoiding the PS3 now.

Does it still lack a memory stick port?

If so, they can still fuck off.

At the moment the 20 GB version still does. Given the way Sony is still tinkering with the specs and prices I would say that's subject to change at any time.

I'm confident Sony is going to say "fuck the crap version" within a year. The only difference I see them sticking with is the size of the HD.

Apparently Sony is still planning on game prices being 75+ for most tiles, and their discounted system is Japan only.

They are still fucking up.  Hell, a number of 360 games aren't even being released at the 60$ price point any more.

I doubt Nintendo will do much this season since outside of Zelda, what must have game does the Wii have?  (None that I could see and Nintendo is acting like Apple in releasing information that could possibly change minds in a decent timeframe.  Its 2 months till launch!)

Sony probably will do alright in Japan, but I don't see North America repeating their PS2 windfall.  Possibly if they did this price lowering thing they are doing in Japan, but doubtful if not.

I'm sure both will sell out their first run stock, but Ebay has proved there are plenty of idiots with more money than sense.  But there are thankfully not quite enough MONEY IS NO OBJECT SO GIMMEEEEEEE!!!  retards to make a billion dollar industry bow to their feet.  Sony will have to realize this and stop thinking they are Nintendo circa 1990 if they want to keep their lead worldwide.

A key point. A lot of people don't realize this point. Apparently Sony found that our market doesn't need a price drop.

That's cause the PS3 price drop was in response to Microsoft's recent price drop of the Xbox 360 Core system in Japan. The Core is now around $255 in Japan plus the $170 HD-DVD drive comes out to, surprise surprise, $425 -- the new price of the PS3 base system in Japan plus or minus $5 dollars or so.
